Hey I'm traveling to France and I'm gonna buy a cheap GSM phone and I've seen a few pretty good deals. My question is this: what freq. bands will I need my phone to support for France? Thanks.

Generally, a quad band phone is what you need (850 and 1900 for the US, 900 and 1800 for overseas).

I believe France operates almost solely on 900 MHz. Check out www.gsmworld.com for coverage and frequencies.

Despite what others might say, I would recommend you get a phone that uses both 900 and 1800 MHz. According to GSMworld.com All French providers except for SFR operate in both bands. If you get a quad band phone, you can use your Cingular/ATT/TMobile service also and not have to worry about transfering your phone book between phones.
