Hello, I brought this W550i phone from India. I worked fine for couple of hours when I came to U.S. but after after that it started to show me "Emerg. Calls only" text on top. I have service from Cingular Wireless. Does anybody know how can I make it work in US or I have to buy a new phone?

the w550i should work if it was unlocked prior to traveling here.

The w550i is set to use india's network and will need a subsidy unlock code to work in the states.

hope that helped

the original service provider has to request the code from the manufacturer.

The unlock code "unlocks" your phone from the original network, allowing it to be used in the states

I would imagine a handset sold in India to already be unlocked. I would re-verify the network/frequency the handset is set on.
