Hey, I'm traveling overseas to Indonesia (I live in the US) and will need a cellphone for emergencies. I was thinking a rental will be best for me seems how i just resigned with verizon not to long ago and they don't have many if any international capabilities. Is this the best way for me to go? What rental companies offer good service in Indonesia? Thanks guys, this is a huge help seems how I don't know to much about all of this.

Cheers,

Brandon 🙂

Rather than rent, you will be better of getting an unlocked GSM phone with teh appropriate frequencies on Ebay or so, aand then just get a prepaid sim when you get there. The phone will be yours to keep for future trips. Most people (except those that's actually offering the rental service) will not advice you to rent a phone in this day and age. First of all, you will not see too many rental companies, and there are reasons for that.

Best bet is to find what phone frequency's work there, probably quad-band is my guess...cheapest way to do it is to get an american quad-band and unlock it...then while you are there just get a prepaid one from a local provider and put their sim card in your unlocked american phone. And yes verizon sucks for international use so you are better off elsewhere, I had to deal with them before and I only went to canada 😕
