Ive mainly worked with motorola and htc. from what I understand you have to mess up the bootloader, OS and recovery mode to completely brick the phone. I have no Idea how someone could accomplish this.
I know with motorola I use RSD lite to SBF the file and it does all the work for me. I just need to get into bootloader mode and find the file to flash. I assume its the same with the rest of the manufacturers as well.
