I have tried researching everywhere I can think of, but I've found no answer to my question: is it possible to place a lock on my text messages which requires a password on my Curve 8330? I'm trying to prevent nosy people from accessing my conversations.

There are only a couple of different programs that come close to doing that, unfortunately since most of them are still in the researching process. However the closest one to that at this point would be call control. There is a free one available and the pro version. The only drawback is that sometimes he have to enter the phone number twice. Only use this program if your serious about it however.
