I disagree with this attitude. There are absolutely things we can do to prevent a massacre. Every day the government thwarts a terrorist act or threat on the Presidents life. We can screen and catch people in Colorado planning to shoot the President. We can track and watch fifth cousins of known terrorists. We can monitor every phone in the US for years following 9/11, but we can't screen for this type of thing? Really?
This also suggests that this wasn't an act of convenience. Had she not had a bushmaster, would he still have found a way? We don't know that it was premeditated. If she'd had it locked up, would it have happened? Knives aren't guns and the psychology behind using them is very different.
