I think it is a good processor, but for most of your basic use you probably don't need a Quadcore..... They are nice to have though.....
In all actuality, most of your basic use, or what I would consider basic (Surfing the web, Using Microsoft Word or equivalent, playing low end games, EX. Plants V. Zombies, etc) you would probably be fine with just an Intel Dual-Core and about 2 GB of Ram....
I run an AMD 6770QM True Quadcore at 3.3GHZ per core with 8GB Ram, but I'm a pc gamer and I generally multitask when I am not gaming.... Never have any issue with lag so far. I can run BF3 in Ultra Graphics with no lag.
