social networking and the expanding grey area

by TheDudeAbides    Jul 25, 2012, 7:04 PM

So I sometimes get razzed because I don't have that many "friends" on facebook, particularily from my roomate who has over 2k. One night roomie was with a friend (who also has umpteen fb friends) and they ran out of gas. They called me, who was an hour away, at10 at night. Made me wonder where all these fb friends I'm lacking yet they have are in this situation. Roomie has gone so far as to say social networking has given him purpose in life with all his 'friends'.

Yet, sometimes I'd rather be on here than talk to anyone irl, there's peeps here I worry about, I would skuh in a heartbeat if we ever met face to face, and even a father figure.

Admittedly it fealt really nice to go on fb's 21 questions and see a bunch of peeps answered questions directly related to my character and integrity, and they were all good.

My dad said TRUE friends in life you can count on one hand with a few fingers left over. He also said you don't know who your TRUE friends are until you are in a crisis situation. Is the virtual social network redefining/reshaping that? For the better or for the worse?
