Well,
I have an integrated graphics card right now, so even some older games chug if they aren't coded well.
Magicka, which has some basic graphics and requires well under what my system has, chugs quite a bit even on the menus.
And for future reference, the way the steam sales work is everything is on a general smaller discount, and then the daily deals are usually much better, and they string those out over the whole sales timeframe.
