FORT PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Johnny Smith has a new digital cell phone, but he relies on an older analog bag phone when he travels the wide open spaces in the western part of the state to line up cattle for sale at a local livestock auction.

The issue isn't analog vs. digital at all. The issue is bag phones. Of course bag phones get better reception - they can output more power because they're no help to your head, and they can have a bigger antenna because they don't need to fit in your pocket.
There's a modern replacement for bag phones. It's called a car antenna. Simple.
i agree analog needs to stay available in some places, the newer techs haven't reached everywhere it needs to be yet....
