Anybody know what the data tranfer rate is with Spring, VZW, or GSM vendors?
thanks

It's a trickier question than it might seem. There are theoretical "peak" rates, and then there are real-world "average" rates. To make things messier, GPRS/EDGE phones have different "classes", and the networks can make different numbers of "slots" available, which both affect speed as well.
...but speaking in terms of real-world average rates with good equipment:
Sprint and Verzon both offer 1xRTT service nationwide. Real-world rates average around 50-80 kbps.
Cingular and T-Mobile offer GPRS, which is generally around 30-40 kbps.
AT&T Wireless offers EDGE, which is based on GPRS, but nearly 3 times faster. Expect around 80 - 110 kbps.
Cingular and T-Mobile will also be upgrading to EDGE later this year.

Sprint's 1X - 50-60kbps
Verizon 1X- 50-60kbps
EV-DO 300-500kbps
EV-DO is only in D.C and San-diego
Nextel (iDEN) 50-60kbps
I am not sure about the GSM carriers.
Who's Spring? Just kidding!
