I am purchasing a data cable for my LG VX5550 phone. I purchased one without software. My computer will pick it up as new hardware, right? I am thinkin it will work as if it was one of those little "jump drive" sticks. Am I right? Can someone please clarify this. The link to the one I purchased is: http://www.88-gifts.com/lglx5450/lg-lx5450-12 00-lx5550-usb-data-cable.htm

Serial Data cables do not require any software drivers. Plug-n-Play.

USB data cables require a software driver for that specific cable, as the cables are NOT built identically.

That said, you then have no software on your PC to assist you with common tasks such as Contact list transfers, Image & video transfers, Ring tone transfers, Internet connectivity, etc... A really good computer geek can do these things with many steps that are not user friendly. I do not recommend trying it...

Most folks use the phone manufacturer's software to make these data transfers very easy. I suggest trying DataPilot's kit for your LX-5550 at http://www.cellularaccessory.com/dp200124.htm l
