"Web Timed Out" connection error.

I have seen a few threads about web connection timeout errors on Nokia phones. I have experienced this myself on my N95-3.
After some recent experimentation I feel the problem lies within the Nokia browser.
I ran 2 different browsers in both 3G and 2G service, the Nokia browser, and Skyfire beta. The Nokia browser will after one or two minutes of non-hyperlink activity will produce the "web timeout error" once you do click a link again. It is my belief that the Nokia browser software shuts down the phones data connection after a period of inactivity most likely to conserve battery power. The Skyfire browser never dropped the connection which I think is due to the fact that when you are on Skyfire you are actually logged on to their dedicat...

I also own the N95-3, and also experience that "web connection timed out" numerous times, I almost exclusivly use Opera Mini 4.1 now, and am eagerly waiting for the day to come when Skyfire is no longer in beta.

But recently I have been getting faster speeds when doing bandwidth tests using CNETs Bandwith Tests, upwards of 1.7mbps, 1.9, and sometimes even slightly above 2mbps, recently I got as high as 2379, I was like woW! ! !

So when is the day ever going to come when Skyfire is available for the masses???

Skyfire is at v.06 beta right now, they have said the next update would most likely be v.08 but will not give a hard date for that, some think it will be with in 2 months. They don't give projection dates because they don't want to disappoint if not met. They are more concerned with the end product than the time to market. It is a very good browser already feature wise but it does need more refinement and inclusions.
My gut feeling is you will see a final v1.0 beta within 4 months and a public release shortly after that.

So essentially, your thinking early 09? Are you using Skyfire on your N95-3 now?

Yes I am using Skyfire now. I signed up for the beta and they text messaged me a download link to install it. I have been using it for about three weeks now.
Here is a link if you would like to try Skyfire.
The Beta2 is still open.

Keep in mind thats its beta and there is much to be implemented yet but I believe your first impression will be... WOW. The speed and rendering is exceptional.
I think early 09 we should see the first full version release. (fingers crossed) 🙂

The link you sent me says Beta 2 isn't yet available. Getting the Skyfire browser is far from simple compared to downloading Opera Mini.

How exactly can I "download" it???

I finally downloaded Skyfire, and I'm liking it! I already did a speed test using CNET's Bandwidth Meter, cause I was curious how fast it really is, I got a result of 2.9mbps! And I don't even have 3G turned on, I'm @ work and am "trying" to make my battery last, I'm actually replying to you right now on my N95-3. Well, I'm going to spend some time adding bookmarks, favorite mobile tech, and movie websites and so on, and of course porn.

For those who have this problem with att edge connection:
My 95-3 firmware 20.2.011 is much happier when not using the att proxy. Not using the proxy also enables sending full size pics.

When using att's 3g, it doesn't seem to make much difference ☚ī¸
