I heard back in the day like 1995ish, that they sold drug dealers tons of phones when they were like 1000 bucks on TDMA. They didn't have to stop at payphones any more.

Yea, I do that to this day. When I come across the network testing devices, I will put it on the ATT test frequency.
The device can only make outgoing calls and cannot be traced.
