Something I always wondered...

Why is it when you ask someone what provider they have, and they happen to have Nextel, they say "I have a Nextel."?

For example, someone would normally say "I have T-Mobile." or "I have AT&T."

But why is it with Nextel subscribers they usually say "I have a Nextel." What's the "a" for? Why not just say "I have Nextel"? No one really says "I have a Sprint." or "I have a Alltel."

Just an idle thought cause I'm so bored.

Its a brand recognition thing.
Nextel customers dont realize their phones are made by Motorola.. to them, its a Nextel.
Many times, customers have asked me about the "Nextel" phones at ATT, when they mean the Push To Talk phones.

Nextel customers are, by and large, fircely loyal to their brand, and that brand is Nextel.. not sprint, not motorola.. Nextel.

Same reason ppl call cotton swabs "Qtips" and snot tissues "Kleenex"

This is what I think. Nextel had few handsets to choose from, style wise anyway.
