Worst thing you've said to a customer

Steeners

Nov 8, 2007, 2:02 PM
The other day this lady was upset because I couldn't access her account due to the billing conversion going on at Sprint, and she said I was REFUSING her service and she was going to cancel all of her lines. I said, "That's Great, I am very glad."
I have also cussed at a customer once who was getting verbally abusive.
What are all of your experiences?

I had a customer that was yelling at me how horrible I was and how bad my company was as she was walking away I said "well that was your experience" It wasn't much to me but to her it was as if I killed her first born. She blew up and told me I had no idea what customer service was.

When you get someone like that hand them the phone and tell them if they want to talk to a machine the number is 1-800-555-5555(customer service number), and if not people don't behave in such a manner to other people, and would you like to try this again another day, because now you get to, and then call security to escort them out. 🤣

"Ma'am, we aren't screwing you over, nor did we give you a bad phone on purpose. You are NOT entitled to a free phone or free service. That would be us getting screwed over. If you want to disconnect because you don't like that your phone has the ability to have call forwarding, then go for it. I don't care. I don't need your business, because you are already a customer. Have a nice day." Then I hung up on her. I had spent an hour and a half explaining that call forwarding was free, there was no way to take the included feature off her phone, I could block it, but it would still show on her phone. She wanted to disconnect. I hope she did.

🤣

She probably didn't even know what call forwarding was, or how to use it... she probably thought she was having all her calls screened by the government or something!

I had a lady in my store one time bitching and complaining about how I should give her a new phone for free because he only dropped her phone once and it broke. After arguing with here for 10 mins. I told her to grow up and act like an adult and I have seen 5 year olds whine less then her. She was livid and start yelling and cussing. I told her that she could leave my store and never come back.

One of my co-workers was running someone's credit, and the application was rejected (possibly due to a block on his credit because of Identity theft) and my co-worker told him that his application was rejected. He asked why. He was told: "Because you have bad credit" 😳 🤣 🤣

I had a guy come in and his line was eligible for upgrade, his old phone wasn't working, but he didn't want to sign a new contract. Typical conversation, rants on and on about how it's too much money to pay for a phone outright, blah blah blah. I went back and forth to with him for about 20 minutes before he said "That's it, I'm not signing a contract, You're not suckering me in again, I want you to give me a free phone, and give it to me now!" I said "No" He said "Why Not?!" I said, "Because you're not worth me not having my job tomorrow". He continued, "Well I guess you just don't want to make a sale" I replied, "No sale to be made.. you've said you don't want to spend any money." He then called me a b**** and demanded my bosses ph...

Back last year when I was a studio manager I had a customer that bought a $150 dollar package, and came back 15 minutes later wanting a refund. She threatened to sue the company for not refunding her money... So I told her that she could have her money when the pictures arrived, but not a day before. She blew up. I looked straight at her and said, "Don't come here if you can't figure out what you can and can't spend your money here. You're not worth my time or the headache."

Having dealt with many rude customers over the years I generally just bite my tongue and don't say anything. This particular lady was a smartass from the get go so I remained completely silent during the transaction breaking the silence only to inform her of her total.

At the end of the transaction I handed her the bag without saying a word and she, loudly, says "What, you can't even tell me to have a nice day? You're F'in rude!"

I snapped and said "I'm rude? You came up here with a smart ass attitude from the moment I said hi. I decided that if you can't talk to me right I'm not going to talk to you at all. So, no I'm not going to tell you to have a nice day because I hope your day sucks. You're a rude bitch and I have sh** to do. Yo...

Over the years, I've accumulated a few. Most I don't remember verbatim, just the idea.

I had a guy with a phone that had corrosion all over it. I told him it wouldn't be replaced free because it had been wet. Of course, his son who used the phone said it had never been wet. The conversation went something like this:

C - Are you calling him a liar?
Me - If he's saying this phone has never been wet, then yes, I am calling him a liar. You can purchase a phone at full retail of $XXX.XX
C - F*** You you little punk!
Me - That's it. We're done here. I won't tolerate that kind of language.
C - I'm gonna come of that desk and kick your arse!
Me - If you can't afford the replacement phone, you won't be able to afford the lawsuit ...

Maybe not the worst thing i said but deffintaly the worst thing i did. I am a supervisor in a sprint call center, and as a sup i have to deal with some pretty dumb people some of them are the agents i have and others are the customers. This was a sup call i had to take it started off that the customer had called in to change his billing address and keep the same number, some dumb rep also changed the coverage address which changes the mdn (ptn for all csm users) well five days latter the customer calls in asking why is my phone not working. one of my agents got the call and determined what had happened. she submitted a mdn reservation form to me and told the customer she would call him back personally as soon as we got the number back for hi...

Customer starts ranting about their bill and ends the rant with "im going to verizon"

and then stands there...

and stares at me...

ive already explained that we are a RETAIL location and we cant handle billing... at all.. and i even offered to put him on the line with customer care... which launched his rant... so im not sure what hes waiting for at this point...

finnally he says

c - well
m - well what?
c - are you gonna help me?
m - you said you were going to verizon so... um door is that way *points*

Sorry... the way to get me to go above and beyond my job discription is not yell and curse at me... you fail. die in a fire...

Well one time a lady called in, and her phone was shut off. I told her she needed to make a payment of $xx.xx to turn it back on and stop it from going to collections. (it was like about to go to collections) She said that we are a rip off company and yadda yadda....

I was like No, we aren't the ones ripping you off, you are ripping yourself off by not paying your bill because you still have to pay if it is suspended every month and you will probably have to pay more once it goes to collections...she kept yelling but it was funny...

then one time, on christmas eve this guy called in and was a real jerk...He needed to speak to a sup and i was like fine...have a MERRY CHRISTMAS! *CLICK* lol....

now I just work with mortgage broker...

I like to use big words alot because most of my customers have to stop and try to figure out wtf I'm actually saying. It sort of slows the rant.

Here's a few of my favorites:
"I'm sorry your perception of reality differs from mine."

"I can only do what I can do"

"That's irrelevant to the situation at hand"

There are others I can't think of right now.

This popped out of my mouth today before I could stop it. I was sitting down in my kiosk doing pretty much nothing. Every once in a while pulling out my book and reading a few pages or playing Zuma on my phone when I had a guy walk up. Here is waht happened.
C: Looks like you need something to do.
m: Haha probably.
C: Well I can give you something to do.
M: I'd rather not. Sitting here playing games and reading is much better than doing work or helping people out.

Then I realized what I had said and apologized. But it is funny now.

I'm just getting myself into trouble today... I just learned that mumbling angry things under your breath can ocassionally be caught.. oops... Some guy came in to buy a case, then started complaining about how it's cheaper at Target. I said sorry, I can't match the price at Target. He said well I would have bought it here if it was cheaper. He did leave... But not quickly enough. I had just mumbled "I don't really give a f***." His daughter started laughing cuz she had heard me... 🙄
