I cannot speak spanish, I cannot understand spanish, I cannot read or write spanish. when a customer comes up to me and asks if I speak spanish (they ask me in spanish of course) and I say "no" and shake my head no, and they continue to speak spanish, even though I say multiple times throughout their one sided conversation "no comprenday" it frustraits me, because I start feeling stupid. when they start getting angry that I don't answer their questions because I can't understand their questions I begin to get pissed, because I don't know what the hell they're asking me, and I told them I don't understand.

do not continue to speak to me in spanish for 10 minutes after I say I can't help you. grrrr

When children are very young like that they can learn multiple languages very easily and rapidly and be fluent in them all. So don't be surprised if your child knows Spanish better than you. I think it is so interesting that when yound kids' brains are developing that you can teach them new languages and they will pick it up quickly.

At least you're not hispanic. I tell them I don't speak spanish. I obviously don't have anything that sounds like an accent (I lost it when i was 5 and moved away from my spanglish relitives). But I get this look like i'm lieing to them. I mean, farken a!

🤣 all my spanish co-workers that "don't speak spanish" (they really do, they tell me they just don't like to) get the same look. I don't understand why they don't just help the people out, if they know what they're asking. they just wanna be lazy I guess.

I'm NOT Spanish, but everyone thinks so. I always get that question. (if I speak Spanish) I say no. Then (on occassion) I get this question, "You not Spanish?" I say "No" and they say, "Are you sure?" (Even people from other races ask me that question!) Of course I'm thinking, "Yeah...I'm pretty sure of my race...." But all I say is, "Yep, I'm sure."

diddle? 🤣 I will definitely be using that. As far as what I've been told. No. I'm Native American, so I have black hair and I have dark skin. matter of fact, I had some Mexican customers that asked to see my ID because he thought I was Latina and didn't believe me when I said I wasn't.

I am white, white, white but I'm actually half hispanic. (Mom is a blonde) I have a coworker who is this big dark mexican guy and he doesn't speak a lick of spanish but I actually do a little. It's kind of fun because the spanish speaking customers will walk right to him and he will have to tell them that the little white girl on pod 1 will help them because he no comprendos!

Maybe you should learn to speak spanish. Some companies even pay extra to people who are bilingual. I know here in California within the next 10 years spanish will be the major language because of all the illegal immigrants we get. I better make good use of the next 10 english speaking years.

Had a woman come in today:

Cust: uh.... no... uh... spanish?

Me: Nope. Sorry. Whatcha need? *smile*

Cust: *holds up a $100 bill*

Me: *wondering if she wants me to strip* "You need to pay a bill?

Cust: Yes

Me: Prepay? (I can't take a contract payment in my store)

Cust: Yes

I pull up the account and it's a contract. I try to tell her where she can go to pay it, but she doesn't understand a word I'm saying. She just sets the bill down, and me, being the nice guy I am, pick it up and hand it back to here. I printed her out a spanish translation (using babblefish.com) of "This is where you pay your bill" and put it on a mapquest driving directions page to get to that store. She left fairly happy, and I feel like a good per...

Sorry, this is America.

If I am racist for not wanting to help someone who cannot speak english, fine.

Funny, though, because it really doesn't matter whether it is a hispaic, asian, or even some british person with a terrible accent, I still expect some form of understandable english.

If I went to Spain or Mexico, I would make an attempt to speak Spanish.

If I went to Germany, I would try speaking the German that I do know.

If you don't like it, go to Spain or Mexico.

It's safe to say that because you will never leave your own state for fear of "furiners".

No, I understand clearly you are not so much a racist as you are an asshole, and while every asshole is not a racist every racist is an asshole. I doubt you ever really help anyone you sell a phone to, I am just saying, you do not need to portray yourself as a racist because i know you do not talk to anyone needing assistance.

I hate everyone equally.

My being a racist is not a question, if you breathe and are not one of an exceptionally small amount of people, I genuinely don't like you.

Of the few people I do know that I don't despise, they are an eclectic blend of African American, Hispanics, Asians, and even a few honkies.

But, I can also give exemplary customer service. It is as simple as smiling into their idiotic mouth breathing faces and asking them in a kind voice what you can do for them.. hearing what they want, asking to confirm you know exactly what it is, and then helping them realise their want as closely as you are allowed.

See, I can be nice... you just have to pay me for it.

at our call center, we have a bilingual team that deals specifically with spanish speaking customers (we use an interpreter service for any other language). The first thing that the menu asks when you call in is whether you would like to proceed in english or spanish (and it asks in spanish as well). If you hit the option for spanish, it directs you straight to a bilingual rep. I get, almost daily, calls from people who navigate through our IVR in english, get to me, and cannot say a word of it. It's always......

Me:"Thank you for calling Asurion. My name is Mitch. How may I help you today?"

Them:"Ummmmmmmmmmm.......habla espanol?"

Me:"No. Let me transfer you to a spanish speaking rep."

Them:"Eh?"

Me:"Hold on."

You work for Asurion? Can I ask you a question? Feel free to let it go because I'm just curious. What's the deal with people having to file a police report if they lose their phone? The police here get pissed off when people try to file a report.

Mar 16, 2006, 12:42 PM
ok....here's the deal.....as with any property insurance (and we are a real insurance company with real insurance underwriters), if you file a claim for missing property, there is a police report required.

It's just like car insurance or homeowners insurance. The only reason that you think it's different is because they lost it, not had it stolen. What you have to realize is that the property is missing either way. If someone picks up a phn that was lost, it's officially stolen. If you could theoretically "lose" a car and you wanted to replace it through insurance.....you would need a police report.

There are a few cases where one is not required, but I won't go into them here, because we have had problems with people lying abo...

I don't know of an insurance company that doesn't ask for a police report on a lost phone. Because a lost phone will eventually be found, unless it becomes a "stolen" phone.
