copies of drivers licenses

As of Oct 1 Verizon is requiring us to submit a photocopy of the customers drivers license with the contract. I was just wondering if anyone else is having to do that. We've been selling Verizon in some way, shape or form for over 13 years here, and have never had to do that.

We've been doing it for longer than I've worked here (2 years). It's a good way to prove that the person activating the phone is the person on the account. We only have to do that for new activations though, not if they're an existing customer.

We do it on all new phones that go out. Whether its a upgrade or new activation. Outright sales do not need a copy. Been that way before I got here. Protects you from fraud.

It's not required by Verizon at my store, but it's a smart thing to do.

We put the customer's DL state, number, and expy date on EVERY contract (upgrade or activation) to verify that the customer was really in the store.
