i want to report my phone damage, but i lost it!!!!

CUST: i took my phone to the store and cannot be fixed
CSR: no problem i'll be happy to assist
CUST: while i was coming home, my children lost it
CSR😲k, so you are reporting the phone lost
CUST: do i have to pay
CSR: yes, its a $50nrd
CUST: but the phone was damaged before i lost it, aaaand i have insurance
CSR: yes but is now lost
CUST: you bunch of thieves, i pay $7 a month to pay your salary and you dont want to help me!!!!!! 😡
CSR: sorry to hear that but you will have to pay 2months every hour in order to pay ME 😡
CUST: ok never mind, i will go to the store they already know my phone didnt work
CRS: hello hello hello hello.... 😕

why do they always think it is the previous state of the phone and not the current state of the phone?

Cust: Yes I want to return this phone (dripping water)
Rep: I'm sorry but it is liquid damaged so you can buy another one, use your insurance (if you have it), or upgrade (if available)
Cust: But I decided to return it and then dropped it in my beer/toilet/tea/lake/ocean/milk/cereal
Rep; (by the way I never say I'm sorry) well here are your options: buy,insurance,upgrade
Cust: What a rip! My last carrier would give me a free phone 10 years ago.
Rep: well then leave and take them back, your their problem...
