This lady came in telling me she wanted one thing, but actually wanting to do another. I was trying my hardest to get a hold of what she was saying but she was just speaking circles and not making much sense. In frustration with a word she storms out of my store.

M: **okay.. that was weird**

She comes back in about 5 minutes later with a brisk pace to my terminal where she breaks down and starts crying and pleading for me to help her because life is soo hard right now and the economy...

M: 👀

I'm not good with criers. I didn't know what to do, and it was kind of frustrating because it looked as if she walked out side to work her self up into this self pity pool of tears in an attempt to sway my emotions. Sad sack lad...

I had a daughter call in once who was no older than id say 17, and just bawled to me because her dad who passed away had a phone with us. She asked for the number to be changed so nobody could call the phone but her (to fill the voicemail since she didnt know the password to clear it out) but the rep who did it didnt tell her that changing the number would reset the voicemail. Therefore she lost her fathers voice.

This was a rather tough call and a tough situation since really nothing i could do.

Gotta love dumb employees that do stuff like that. I have always wondered if there are any 9/11 voices out there still on voicemail messages.

I believe there was a Dr. Phil or Oprah special where there was a few people who brought there cell phones in or answering machines to play the last messages there family left. Shortly after i read that the government tried to take but made copies of them to 'investigate' the issue. What a hoax, 9/11 was such a set up.

I agree watch zeitgiest.

back to the main topic.

I had a lady come in Christmas eve. She was putting her sister on her plan as a gift. She had a 100 dollar deposit. at the time we were giving out 50 dollar credits to new customers. So she brings in 50 bucks and says take that 50 off of my deposit. I said "No, i can't do that, it goes on your bill" So she ended up have to put her TV in the pawn shop to pay her deposit.

The next month She gets a bill over $300. well if she hadnt got on the internet and download ringers and wallpapers. Then her sisters activation fees, and proration. which i went over with her, and she signed a piece of paper saying she understood.

She tells me how she is so broke and that she doesn't have a job...

yes. We have a crazy lady that will alternately stare off into space while talking to you or cry. Big, fat, silent tears....and if you are not that phased she will throw in some sound effects. The first time i was all sympathetic but this is the second location that i have worked at that she trys it on.

NO GO....we will be more than happy to help you but i cannot understand you if you are crying. Why don't we calm down so we can get to the bottom of whatever issue is so important. 😈

I had a customer one time that had just moved out of state from where she was back to her hometown so she could be close to her family. She was in a hurry to get everything processed because she had to go pick up her daughter, so I got everything set up and read her the legal...then she told me that I had permission to finish the order from there with her cousin. The woman's cousin shared with me that the customer had to leave so quickly because she needed to get her daughter, who is mildly handicapped...and then when I told her that her cousin had been approved for 2 lines of service 0 deposit, she cried. She was so happy that she called her cousin on her brother's phone to tell her that she was approved...it was very heartwarming to hea...

Only once for me. A girl was wanting to set up service. Nothing fancy...it was going to be the $39.99/plan w/no features & no accessories. We run the credit check...comes back with a huge deposit. She claims that she has great credit. We do some digging and she finds out that her boyfriend since high school (she was probably mid-20's) had recently obtained credit cards in her name and maxed them out without paying anything on them.

i had one of my regular and great customers come to see me one day cause her bill was way super high and she couldnt figure out why. i did some digging and found out it was cause she went WAY over her minutes!! which for her just never ever happens! she was amazed she used so much and then just broke down and started crying. Found out what had happend was that her daughter(who i knew from her coming with her mom) was shot and killed by her boyfriend, who then killed himself and she had walked into their house and found them there on the floor!! it was not easy to listen to or see her like that but giving the situation i completly felt her pain!! 😢

people like me are realistic. and if i did find my daughter and her boyfriend dead somewhere.... you know where i'd shed my tears???...... i'll give you a clue.

....IT'S NOT IN A WIRELESS STORE.

you taking this personally is pathetic. people like you are pathetic; reason being.... because you take everything other people say to heart way too quickly without realizing the big picture. ...wake up call...other people think differently than you.

just because i'm a hard a$$ who doesn't think their customers should be crying and begging and playing the "pitty me" card in a retail store doesn't mean that i'm not entitled to my own opinion and my own words.

truth betold, i don't get paid to listen to them sob. nor do i get paid when the...

Yeah. I don't blame her either. This was back in 2002, IIRC. She'd been hit with a large text messaging bill after getting a cell phone for her son at university. Apparently the son's roomie had gotten his mitts on the phone (whether or not that much is REALLY true, who knows - maybe the son was just a bigger sh*t than she imagined), and had done a buttload of IM.

I've seen bigger bills over the years, for sure, but it was a big one for that particular customer (who had an impeccable pay history, and had never protested a charge with us before - the kind of customer cell carriers like). At the time our policies did not allow for the possibility of any adjustment at all, including re-rating to a larger plan (which would've upped her monthl...

Once they did a brief experiment with making me floor support. It was kind of a brevet thing, since our center had just experienced a great exodus of experienced bodies, and someone figured, "Well. Webb is bitter and he scares us, but he knows a lot and doesn't slack, so I guess he's our best shot." It's not an exact quote, but it summarizes the sentiment nicely.

And I was permitted under certain circumstances to take escalations. One of the reps I was responsible for gave me a good one - a fellow protesting just such a batch of roaming charges. The caller was insisting that Canada WAS part of the United States, in no uncertain terms. My center was in Canada (outsourced, since closed), so naturally my rep is initially flummoxed, then crac...

Rick Mercer used to have a segment on This Hour Has 22 Minutes called 'Talking to Americans', in which he would travel to the United States and lure hapless bystanders and members of government into saying very silly things...

Like when he slipped into a George W. Bush press conference and informed him that Canadian Prime Minister Jean Poutine had endorsed his campaign. While a knowledgeable candidate would promptly dismiss this notion (our PM's name was not poutine - poutine is a delicious but atrocious upon your arteries French-Canadian dish which is basically fries, beef gravy, and cheese curds), Bush proceeded to state that he was thankful for Mr. Poutine's blessings.

Red Green is more making fun of certain Canadian caricatures (wh...

Yeah. That particular bit kind of ran out of steam when Rick Mercer left This Hour Has 22 Minutes to do his own show. Plus it stands to reason that after he got George W. Bush that there just weren't as many ripe targets out there for his shenanigans.
