"soft" credit check?

I work at a Cingular call center. A customer told me that a sales agent said that when we do a credit update it wouldn't be a hit on his credit because it is a "soft" credit check. This doesn't make any sense to me. I thought a check from any creditor hit your credit. Big liar?

Soft credit check doesn't refer to it not hitting your credit report it just doesn't do as much damage as getting your credit checked for a car. Barely dings it or so I've been told.

minus one point for thirty days. Not a big deal at all. If they need to worry about one point tell them to go to Zumiez and get Boost.
