Weird Pics

lexi0707

Feb 21, 2008, 3:11 PM
I had a customer trade in a phone yesterday and I was going through clearing everything out when I came across so really odd pictures. There was a young girl about 7 or 8 tied up in a wooded area. She did not look really scared but she did not look happy either. I am not sure if the pictures are just a joke or for real. What would you do in this situation?

Notify your supervisor, let him/her make the decision on what to do. It could be nothing, but it might also be something.

Personally I would notify the police as well as my manager. With all of the horrid people in this world today there is no room to take chances. Whose to say if it is a prank or if a childs life hangs within that picture.

If it is a prank fine, but if it isn't and three months from now that same girl is found dead you would never forgive yourself.

I would most definitely report it, I had a friend that used to work at a photo center and they had an entire list of things they were required to report, animal cruelty, anything suspect of being child pornography and so on, with the amount of phones with cameras now there is probably some policy your supervisor has on this sort of a situation, if not corporate should most definitely have some sort of procedure in place.

I would inform your manager and let them deal with the situation. That way you are not going against any policies that your company has regarding the situation. It could be harmless but just in case you never know.

Personally, I find you violating privacy rules. You also are assumimg someone is guilty of something. It's none of your business. And don't use the "the custy turned in the phone to us" routine. You don't have to go thru the picture menu to do a master clear.

Thats actually not true. Some samsungs don't have a master clear just a master reset which doesn't clear the media. So in some cases you have to go through each picture to delete it.

Its also no true on this point: If a customer is turning it over to you, THEY should have deleted. You did not violate privacy being they gave you the phone back. Its the same premise as the HIPPA (Health Information Privacy Protection Act) you cannot release the names or other information about a patient unless given written permission, or VERBAL concent by the patient or family, OR you cannot take medical recordzs unless the OWNER gives them to you directly, or gives you written permission to take them. By someone turning that in, its an assumption owenership, there for the information is yours to do with as you please.

technically the cust is no longer the owner of that device. So lexi0707 is not violating anyones right to privacy. Plus, the cust knew very well that she was handing in that device, so if she didn't clear off the pictures, too D*mn bad.

Personally nothing... The fact of the matter is, T-mobile legally assumes responsibility of all phones within their care. Therefore it is their property, to do with as they please.

Your right to privacy ends when their right to to well-being is threatened.

No one is assuming anything is guilty of anything. The fact is, it's about the girl who's in the picture, not how she got there or why she got there or even who put her there. Those questions come later, after the girl is found safe and there is suspect of foul play on the AUTHORITIES part. It's not an employees role or job to pass judgement, but to take what's been observed and pass it on to a manager who will most likely pass it on to police. It's called discernment.

this is definitely a police matter, if not a federal matter depending on statelines, blah blah blah...

notify your sup., DM, VP, CEO and the authorities. let them handle it.

Were there any other pictures on the phone like that? if there were, then you have been neglectful in even waiting to make the call to 911

I would call the local police and let them decide. Sounds a little jacked up to me. You may lose a customer, but eh, it would be worth it to me. Even if he didn't molest the kid, at no time should you be tyeing your daughter or someone else's daughter up in the woods. For all you know, she could be a missing kid.

Let us know what you do. I wouldn't hesitate though, if it were me.
