Okay, I have to write this out so everyone can enjoy the stupidity of this customer...
C: My phone won't work. Everytime I try to call my son, it won't work.
Me:Well, show me how you do it.
Customer doesn't put in area code.
Me:Well, the problem is that you are not dialing the area code.
C: Oh, he lives here too.
Me:I understand that but we made it so that you have to do 10-digit dialing.
C: What is 10-digit dialing?
Meπialing the area code with the phone number.
C: There is 11 digits.
She then gives me a look like I am stupid.
Me: Actually there is only 10. You don't have to dial the one.
C: **scoff** whatever. When did they change this.
Me: Last November.
C: Well no one told me.
Me: Well here is...

I wonder how on earth she was calling her son, or anyone else, since the 10-digit change went into effect.
...
wow all gsm carriers require 10 digits!! LOL and CDMA carriers do were they have overlapping area codes.
...
10 digit dialing is also required in large cities. miami has atleast two in the county alone.
...
Not in small towns. I live in Idaho, which has the same freaking area code for the entire state. I don't have to dial it to call my folks or anything up here, though to Sandpoint (which is in the next county) I still do.
...
i think all her family lives out of state so she did 10 digit dialing for them. I think I know why.
...
yeah, they all probably live down south... cause she sounds like an inbreed.
Her family tree looks like a wreath...
...
How did you know I am in South Carolina.
...

Wow if you treated me like that I would deact on you too!
Honestly in my hometown we have hadto dial area codes (on house phones) even if the call is in your area since like 1988 so when I switched to a cellphone I expected it to be the same. You must work in rednckville. I bet you are a redneck too.
...
I am not a redneck. And the problem is that they are actually running out of numbers in our area code. They are currently adding area codes to our area, and it is causing a lot of problems.
...
No you are the problem.
...
I know. Just report me to HR or Customer service. π
...
How bout a bop on the nose out back by the dumpsters?
...
Ok girls stop fighting
...
don't forget to port your number to suncom...
...
Isn't suncum at&cingular now?
...
No, suncom just use at&t towers and charge roaming. So you can roam even if you are inside your service city.
...
yeah, i was trying to activate 3 new lines and 2 of them wouldn't activate.
i call to find out whats up and tech support tells me they have ran out of numbers for my city and i have to pull from another (same area code)
...
Back in the early 90s we went from one are code (seven digit dialing) to two area codes and ten digit dialing. Now we have at least three local area codes just for Dallas, and Fort Worth has another three. It's awesome.
...
MD has required area code + ph number for all calls (cell & land line) for... 8 years... i forgot there was ever any way to complete a call without it...
