I have been on here since 2004. The lounge was not the most active back in the day. There was a movement to moderate not specific carrier topics to the lounge. It was, in my opinion, a good move because it kept off topic (mindless) posts away from what Rich considered the more important information areas of his site.
This move succeeded and the lounge as you know it has grown. The carrier forums did not die, but became much more useful to customers asking questions and debate about carrier related topics.
Over the years the fanboys got worse and worse and the cross forum spam and attacks became overwhelming to many constributors. When we would come in and post people attacked the information rather than opening their eyes to the fact that (gasp) someone might know something they did not. Excellent case was the post by the user iselltheshitoutofphones. He posted he could help AT&T users get unlimited data. It was a slaughter of the original poster. That was typical of many contributors which is why they left.
Had Rich chosen to moderate himself or chosen to hire (or enlist volunteers) to help moderate many of these threads would not have become so out of control.
SPAM is a violation of the TOS. These actions can be policed. Rich's reply here suggests his intent of the forums and their decorum. His actions show otherwise.
