Phone for use in US and Japan

Recomendations for friend taking 20 day trip to Japan, currently uses att and a palm os treo, besides the tilt, unlocked or att branded. Something decent, he goes to college, so he'd like something to alternate between school and play. Thank you in advance.

Question

I know that GSM is global, and I know that CDMA is mostly in the U.S. but are there other CDMA networks besides U.S.

Also, what is the best GSM carrier for Global? I know at&t says some stuff but I don't like them and I want to believe in T-Mobile, are they any good for global?

3G/Data in Europe

Hi,

I was looking into buying a E63-2, but I realized that 3G does not work for this phone in Europe (only for the E63-3, which is $100 more).

Besides the iPhone, are there any other good phones that operate at the 3G frequency of Europe?

Thanks.

Cambodia calls **Need Advice

Hey, Newbie here.
Spent December in Cambodia working in an orphanage and will be going back in a few weeks. 25 cents to call the US in many internet places/cafes. Would like to use my CDMA Verizon Razr which I still love but know it does not work there even tho it did work in Thailand and Vietnam at $2.00 a minute! Thought of just buying a Trac phone or something than getting a SIM card in Cambodia, can I even do that and what would it cost?? What is my best bet on using a cell phone to make calls to the US from there. Thanks so much for the advice.
Regards,
Mike

Phone for USA, Japan, and Korea

I'm in Korea 3-4X per year and have always rented a phone at the airport. I believe Korea is CDMA, so my AT&T quad band GSM does not work and thus I cannot even retain my phone # with my SIM.

My AT&T contract is up and I've determined that Verizon seems to be the best choice with a Blackberry 8830 which does support CDMA. The store salesman claims it will work in Korea and suggests their 30 day trial to confirm. That's not good enough for me. I want confirmation NOW so I don't get to Korea and have to go through the hassle of renting at the airport. Anyone know?

If it's true that the BB 8830 works in Korea, it sure would be nice if AT&T had the same or similar phone so I could avoid migrating!!!

I've also been told that Japan an...

Best SIM card for access in Europe

Where can I get the SIM card that will give me the most access in different countries in Europe. Any advice? I visit Europe maybe twice a year (mostly UK, France, Spain, Russia, Portugal, Germany), I'd like to buy a SIM that will allow me to buy prepaid minutes and use with my unlocked tri-mode GSM phone.

Thanks,

Cell Phone Service for a year in France

My daughter had been given an opportunity to teach in France for the better part of the coming year. We have already arranged land-line options and are looking into how best to provide her with a cell phone. Based on discussions with two USA providers, it is clear that using them is not an option for such an extended stay. I'm wondering if anyone can offer any insight or any suggestions re "local" providers in France. Thank you

Advice for the Caribbean

We live on our sailboat 6 months/yr in the caribbean, frequently in the BVI or USVI. Internet signals are either expensive or not working, so I want to get either a blackberry or iphone so that we can connect to the net while in the islands, since they always have cell signal there.
This would keep us from lugging our computer to shore. I am leaning to iphone. it seems the easiest to use, and we are not really high-tech. Any advice would be appreciated.
