Would like examples of the cost of cel plans in foregin countries

In the years i've been following various forums, it is quite apparent that the cost of using a cel phone in most foreign countries is considerably more expensive than here in the U.S.

However, i've yet to see anyone post what plans actually cost and what you get.

From what i've extrapolated, tho, it appears that outgoing calls are well over 10 cents/min. and incoming calls are often double that. The bill for the incoming cel call shows up on the landline bill of the number that called you. Calls placed by one cel user to another also seem to be quite expensive.

Here, of course, even a moderate user pays well under 7 cents/min. for prime time calls. Heavy users pay as little as 2 cents/min.

Using ATTWS Siemens S46 in Germany?

I have Siemens S46 with ATTWS. Phone has European GSM 900mhz. It's not unlocked. In April I plan to visit Germany for a few weeks. I would like to use the phone while in Germany for calls to/from US and within Germany. If that at all possible how'd I go about that?

Will ATTWS unlock the phone or should I resort to some 3rd party?

What's cheaper: to use ATTWS international rates via ATTWS SIM (still need to unlock?) or buy some prepaid SIM in Germany (if so which one?)?

Or is it cheaper and less hassle just to rent a GSM phone? If so where?

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

Help with Sim/International travel

I've just purchased my first GSM phone, Nokia 6820 with ATTWS service.

I am traveling to the Philippines and Japan and would like to get a pre-paid SIM card since roaming charges are quite high. I just don't know if I can do this.

Could someone offer some insight on this. From my research, it looks like my phone is "locked this mean I cant use a pre-paid SIM?

Thanks for the help!

Using USA Telephones Abroad - How does one go about it.

I plan to go to Spain this summer and would like to have a telephone to make local calls there. I knpw that I need a GSM 900/1800/1900 telephone. If I get one with a USA plan, I have the following questions:

1- Where do I buy the local chip there?
2- How much do the chips cost abroad, any examples?
3- How much do calls cost and who bills me?
4- Is there a lot of paperwork or a waiting period to purchase a chip?
5- Are the chips returnable?

Thank you.

Mobile Phone Service in Iraq?

I am a Telecom Analyst who supports mobile phones for over 200 Associates. One of them was recently called into active duty and shipped to Iraq. He claims that some of the soldiers there have ATT working mobile phones. ATT tells me they don't have service in Iraq. My Associate is insistent and wants me to get him a mobile phone to use while there. Can anyone else confirm or deny that ATT service is available in Iraq? Are there any carriers up and running in Iraq? Thanks for your help.

Need an unlocking primer

I am looking into buying a new phone and signing
up for AT&T wireless. I would like the ability to
use the phone in Europe as well (Italy, UK, Germany, France, etc.)

I don't understand all of the issues with regard to locked phones. Will AT&T help me unlock my phone? What are the advantages and disadvantages of having an unlocked phone?

Thanks.

One bad Kyocera

How can I find out if a particular phone made by Kyocera will be supported by my service provider?

The phone is currently not available in the U.S. but is soooo sweet. I have an opportunity to get one and need to know what needs to be done to insure that it works in the network.

Any information on such a transaction would be great.
