Prepaid spain: studying U of Seville for semester

I'm off to U of Seville for overseas study and have an unlocked GSM tri-band phone...so all I need is a Spanish SIM card. I will need to access for 4-5 months.

I know there are three different carriers available. Any recommendations based on following usage patterns:

1. Will probably receive in-coming calls from mom and dad from the states -- are in coming calls free or is there a charge.

2. Occasional overseas international call home (New York area).

3. Not sure who I'll be calling -- probably my host family and fellow students (they probably will have same questions and use of the same three carriers).

Cingular Motorola V400 in Europe

I have got a different answer everytime I talk with some one from Cingular (store, customer service, internet)so I need some real practical help. I recently purchased a motorola v400 from a1wireless.com and it arrived already activated with Cingular. I know (or was told) that I can use it in Europe and be on international roaming. I believe the guy on the phone said that he was activating that feature. No problem, I understand that. I also know (or think) that Int'l roaming would be much more expensive than if I purchased a sim card from a European company and used it with a European phone #. Has anyone taken their v400 (straight out of the box)to Europe (specifically Spain) and tried this? I have heard that the v400 comes unlocked but when ...

I want a European phone (whine)

Sorry in advance if I am making someone repeat already answered questions...

I have a T-Mobile GSM phone with a US based service plan. I use it a lot in Europe and the US. However, I want to buy a new phone in Europe (alright, I confess a "cooler" phone). What I really want to do is take out my SIM and just pop it into a new phone in Europe and have T-mobile just treat it as my regular phone?

Why is this not possible? Does it have to do with the "locking" threads I've read about?

I went into a phone shop last week in France, asked them the same question and they were all curious too. We popped out my SIM and put it in another phone. When we booted the phone, it prompted us for a code (which I do not have)??? Is this the "lock...

Needed GSM World with TDMA & analog

I know it sounds weird but I live in a part of the states that does not have GSM service at all.
My phone is analog/TDMA AMPS/800/TDMA/800/1900, it works! But I travel and want a quad with TDMA and analog. Does such a phone exist? Right now I think I'm stuck with another rental for each trip, I really don't want two phones and two numbers. Thanks in advance.

Looking for a phone

I do a lot of international travel in my work (primarily Ukraine, Croatia, Republic of Georgia, and China) Recently in ROG a friend there loaned me an Ericsson phone with a local SIM and I simply purchased phone cards for calling back to the states. What a deal! I am a Cingular subscriber and am looking for a suggestion on a phone I can purchase to take with me on my travels. I like the idea of purchasing a SIM locally so it doesn't matter to me about using Cingular service. Any suggestions?: 🙂

Taipei - next week!

I've been there earlier this year, didn't have the time to plan for it. Leaving here Monday, spending Tues thru Saturday in Taipei. I am currently using Cingular GSM w/ SE-t616 (marginal phone...I'm addicted to BT headset).

Can I buy a SIM to use during that visit?

Could I buy a new BT phone to bring back and use w/ my Cingular acct?

Probably need to shop Tokyo instead ... just by scanning features, I'm partial to:

Visiting Russia - Need SIM

In August I need to go to Russia for 2 weeks. My carrier here in the US, T-Mobile, wants to charge $4.99/min roaming in Russia! I'd like to get a local SIM for Russia where I can call Moscow from within Russia at a reasonable cost.

I have a V60i phone with T-Mobile in the US. Does this phone support prepaid? What are my options? What do you recommend?

1800/1900 + 800 or 900?

I'm helping a family member research a phone to be used in the US and Europe. Looks like the freq combos are 800/1800/1900 or 900/1800/1900, so the trade-off is having 2 freqs available in one location at the expense of the other.

If this is correct, which is the way to go? Clearly, the phone will be used in the US more, but how limiting is *not* having 900 in Europe?

Is there a phone with 800/900/1800/1900?

TIA

international use

Hello -- I've been reading the forums and have another question. If I buy an unlocked phone, subscribe to a US service for domestic calls, and then buy a SIM card in another country when I'm abroad -
1. are the rates substantially cheaper?
2. and are SIM cards in Europe/Scandanavia/China/Thailand etc compatible with all of our GSM phones?

3. will I be able to receive calls at my US number while abroad using a SIM card?
4. where do you buy the SIM cards abroad?

Thanks very much

Selecting a PDA

I am trying to select a phone/PDA and will be using it internationally. Anyone have thoughts as to which device/carrier would be best? I am considering the Blackberry 7280 under ATTWS, T-Mobile or Cingular and the Treo 600 with Goodlink technology under Cingular. I am as interested in the quality of real time email service as I am with phone service (and don't know whether they are one in the same or not internationally).

I saw the string earlier re: 800/900/1800/1900 and ATTWS versus Cingular, but am not sure how to read that given that the 7280s offered by ATTWS and Cingular both have the 850/1800/1900 bands.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

V600 Quad phone and prepaid world cards

I am looking for a phone and SIM for my son who will be stationed in Germany and possibly elsewhere. I'll probably by an unlocked V600 and I'm looking for advice on the phone and these world phone cards like

or
Mindlogic.com

Are these cards worth it or just a rip-off for the minute rate?
Thanks
