How Crucial is the 800/850 Band

In this forum's Latest News the article about AT&T's network improvements said the following:

"The new hardware and software lets callers with compatible GSM/GPRS devices use the 850-megahertz band of the radio spectrum, which generates a stronger signal than the 1900-megahertz band, travels over larger areas, and penetrates walls better, the company noted."

1.- How badly will AT&T 900/1800/1900 telephones be affected after this improvements?
2.- Does this mean that AT&T customers will be required to have the 800/850 band?
3.- How will this affect Cingular and T-Mobile users 900/1800/1900, if at all?
4.- Does this mean that AT&T users with 800/850 will have better service than Cingular and T-Mobile customers?

Thank you.

Analog Roaming.

There are so many new phones on Verizon that do not have this. I need To replace my Lg VX1 and all the new ones do not offer this except for the VX4400 series. Do i really need this feature?? Any suggestions. Will be replacing the phone in 24 hours due to it fading into oblivion after 2+ years of great service.

questions n stuff

Im in the industry and go to seminars and tranings and visit web sites to know the most that i can about wireless service.

However I hear things from the "trainers" that i am unsure about....so i have some questions that i hope someone (looks at rich) can clear up for me

1) Nextel is IDEN for the two way and GSM for their normal service?

2) The 900 frequency has something to do with building penetration in the states, or entirely for international service?

3) Why does CDMA in general have a stronger signal strength? More towers? Better technology for signal strength? (building penetration or whatever)

4) Who is gonna benifit most from all these new technology switches? Verizon for going WCDMA? (are they even doing that?), ATT/...

Verizon V60 Timer

How can I clear the life timer on a V60? The earlier Motorola phones we could put into test mode and do a phasing command to clear all non-volatile memory and clear call timers... Any clues?

Bands

If a phone has more bands does that mean the reception would be better than a phone with less?

Camera phone weblog.

I've been trying to drudge up a decent weblog site that didn't require eighty-five thousand steps for me to post phone pics.. and naturally, it ended up being someone else I know that stumbled upon the site by accident.

For those of you interested, snapnpost.com is a free weblog/gallery type photo site. It even has an api feature so those of you that are especially eager can display your gallery on your website (via a bit of coding that they provide...)

Yeah. That's it.

WCDMA vs. CDMA

Okay, so someone asked the question below in the Phone Scoop forum, but the answer belongs here... so here goes:

gangrelated said:
could you please explain the difference between cdma and wcdma. its an ongoing argument in several forums. it is my understanding that the two are similar. however wcdma is an actual 3g format, whereas cdma is actually a 2.5g format. people seem to think that because verizon currenty usses cdma that they can do a simple upgrade to wcdma. if you wouldnt mind a clarification on this would appreciated.

The short answer is: WCDMA is a whole new digital wireless technology. It has a little in common with GSM at certain levels, but not much. Likewise, it has a little in common wit...

Bluetooth & CDMA

Greetings.

Are there any CDMA phones that support Bluetooth currently on the market?

Are there any planned?

If not, what's the hold up?

Inquiring minds want to know.

sony ericsson ringtones

Hi I was wondering if anyone has the Sony Ericsson T616? I purchased one and i set up the internet on it (Cingular) and i always got my ring tones from www.MatrixM.com because they have the voice ring tones. i purchased some and downloaded them and when i play them you can not hear it unless you put the phone up to your ear. it didn't even give me option of making it a ring tone. it was in the " MY SOUNDS " folder and all the other sounds it comes with it gives you that option. I hope someone can help!!!!!!! ☹️ 😢

Bluetooth Reception

Hi All,
I've recently bought a motorola V525 and got a bluetooth HS801 headset to go with it. I previously had a V60 with a personal handsfree ear piece and it worked sensationally.

I find that with the bluetooth headset connected no one can understand me and I have listened to my own phone and who ever speaks on it is very unclear. Is this a common problem with bluetooth headsets or do you think I may have a dud headset which I should send back to a Motorola Dealer?

I have never used bluetooth before so really have no idea whether this is the norm.

Many thanks

Greg
