OK, so I've got a lot of the cool things working here, although it is a much greater learning curve than I had anticipated. But, I can't view things from Youtube, or Gexo, my favoite porn site. How can I do that?

Sprint OpenWeb Update

Sprint OpenWeb Update

Published by Dennis March 18th, 2008 in Content Adaptation and Carriers.

I've found out a little more about the OpenWeb transcoder that US CDMA/EVDO provider Sprint is rolling out which I wrote about last week. If you missed that piece, Sprint has added a transcoder from OpenWave called OpenWeb to at least some of their WAP gateways. The stated purpose of OpenWeb is to transform full web pages that wouldn't be usable on handsets into something mobile friendly. The problem is that the OpenWeb software modifies the browser's http headers, removing some and adding others which breaks many off-portal content (ringtone, wallpaper, game) delivery services. OpenWeb also transcodes many mobile websites that don't need it...

Any AT&T employees know when HSPA

Do any AT&T employees know when the day is ever going to be here when there are data speeds that are real world/end user that are well over 2mbps.

I'm not interested in words like theoretical, or advertised speeds! I am only interested in real world end user results.

So do any AT&T employees know when there will be 2,3,4mbps of end user speeds??? If this helps, I live in Las Vegas, Nv.

GPS service comparisson

So... I'm getting a little tired of verizon but I've gotten hooked on navigator for $10/mo. I guess Nextel has telenav for the same price but you need a data service for $15/mo to get it to work. Can anyone out there comment on the available GPS services among all the different carriers, prices and pros and cons?

I760 data

I just got a new I760. I did NOT get the data plan, I'm useing it more for the other apps on it, & not for the net.

Is there a way for me to turn off the data options or make it so I dont get data charges, because I find myself bumping the data key.

I dont want to run up a big data charge on my bill that I dont want.

Thanks for any help.

Faster tethering options....

Currently, I'm tethering a LG VX8300 to my laptop to transmit 800k to 2MB images on Verizon. However, that last two times I used it, transfer times were exceedingly slow to non-existent in spite of good coverage. Would i have significantly better transfer speeds with a PDA and data package tethered to my laptop or should I break down and get an air card to get more reliable faster transfer speeds. I was hoping to pick up a PDA for easier access to email and map, thus killing two birds with one stone, so to speak, but will it make a difference. Would it make a difference with a different carrier. I live in the Puget Sound area, so perhaps another carrier might have better data transfers speeds from a PDA. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Newbie Tethering question

When looking at a phone's specs on this web site. How can I know if a phone is capable of tethering. I have a Blackberry Pearl (AT&T) and both a Mac Book (black) and a Dell Latitude D820. Trying to set up the MacBook to use the Blackberry as a wireless modem is a pain!!

9-1-1 TAXES ON AIRCARS (SPRINT PX-500)

I am in a discussion with Sprint and the Illinois Commerce Commission on the taxes that appear on my bill for my Sprint Pentech PX-500 broadband card for my laptop. I am paying $0.57 for Federal 9-1-1 taxes and $0.75 for local 9-1-1 tax. This isn't a bank-breaker, but it's the principle.

The card cannot "dial" 9-1-1 and it lacks GPS chipset for Phase 2 wireless E9-1-1 location requirements. Because of this, I contend that I should not be paying taxes for a device that CANNOT use the services for which I'm being taxed. It would be the rough analog of paying 9-1-1 taxes for a WiFi card.

Has anyone else tried to make this argument? Am I shoveling feces against the tide?

I am not able use or access flash based services on my vzw 8130 pearl. Shouldn't the opera mini browser support this? Can it be downloaded? Any experiences and/or suggestions are appreciated.

VZW 10mb PDA plan or unlimited

I am putting my phone number on a TREO. I want to try the email functionality. Only thing is I have NO idea how much email/internet use is 10mb. (Honestly, $45 a month for the unlimited plan seems expensive) Anybody know? I know that typically the carriers gouge one for overages but I would like to figure out if the 10mb plan would work.
Thanks

GRPS Class 10 vs Class 10/Edge vs Class 12/Edge

Greetings,

Hopefully someone here can clarify the difference between these data modes for me. I've contacted T-Mobile, but, to no avail.

What I'm doing is using my phone as a modem (via a cable) to a laptop to access the net. Below are a few examples of phones and what they're "high speed data access" modes are. Can anyone tell me the differences (speeds, clarity, what???) between the different classes and the Edge?

Samsung T309 - GPRS (Class 10) - Currently have this phone and am connecting consistently at a speed of 460.8

Motorola W409 - (and many more) - GRPS (Class 10) / Edge

Motorola RIZR Z3 - GRPS - (Class 12) / Edge

Additionally, I read that with the Edge, speeds are about half of what they could be available to r...

No frills phone for tethering to n810 or similar device

I've owned an HTC Wizard (T-Mo MDA) for a couple of years now and it will almost certainly get replaced with something new this year. An HTC Tilt (as ATT calls it) is a logical choice - gotta love that GPS. But some micro-PC devices like the Nokia N810 have me considering going with the simple phone, BT tethered micro-PC route.

But I can't figure it out because there just doesn't seem to be a dead simple phone with Bluetooth that would be the ideal partner in such a pairing. Sure I could get a fancy one that will stand on its own two feet if the tethered device isn't around, but I rather think I'd end up carrying both at all times - except I'd really rather not see that phone, I'd like to keep it in my pocket, use it via a headset as...
