help with school blocking

I work at a high school where they block cell phones b/c of student usage - sucks for us adults who then would like to use ours, especially when we have no access to long distance calls on school phones.
For whatever reason, many of us feel excessive blockage, the powers to be also block most all sites on the computers. It has now gotten to the point I can not even access my on-line bank account. I totally understand blocking facebook, my space and the such but seriously...bank accounts.
We do have wireless systems within the school and they were thinking of allowing students to have their laptops, that hasn't happened as of yet. In different locations of the school we are able to get cell service, I can even receive text messages in ...

Am I stuck?

I've got a ATT data card, 2 year contract of course. Use it with my laptop at work. Work has moved me to where I no longer get 3G coverage. Can I cancel my service without an ETF?

Carrier Wars: Best 3G data speeds, from real world users!!!

What I llike about this is that it's real world users, a lot of them, not just some review from PC Magazine or something. I always prefer a testimony from real world end user consumer over some companies advertisement or something.

For those of you who are firewalled, this was on Boy Genius Reports website btw.

Average Download Speed

Sprint: 1361kbs
AT&T: 933kbps
T-Mobile: 786kbps
Verizon: 701kbps
Average Upload Speed

Speed testing

I see a lot talk about speed - upload and download across differing network/carrier technologies but is there a definitive way to actually run a test and get a value? I understand about all the inheriant issues involved here, but can we just run a test? How is this done? Yes I am talking about a handset or wi-fi attachment device.

Using non AT&T unlocked phones for texting on AT&T

Can I use a non AT&T smartphone such as a Blackberry for just calls and texting and not get a message that I am required to have a data plan with that phone. I understand that they can track the phone from the ID number on the phone. I have no need for data. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question about tethering a laptop to a cell phone

Assuming I have a carrier that supports tethering and a suitable phone that can connect to my laptop either via USB or Bluetooth, is it possible to connect to the Internet without having to use a dial-up ISP? If so, how can I do it? I have dial-up for my desktop at home but I'd hate to be limited to 56K on my mobile laptop. Any thoughts?

To Data or Not to Data

A few things that most people that look at this new data plan "requirement" don't seem to realize, is why this actualy came about. There are several things happening that brought this on and maybe even more than I realize. To start, lets look at the phones. We can now connect to the world wide web, update our favorite social networks, search restraunts, nightlife, business reviews, news, etc.. through even most of the basic phones. Simply we can just do a ton more with our phones than any of us ever imagined. Now with a phone such as the env3 there are so many shortcuts online and integrated apps that consume data. The volume of pissed off customers with $1.99 per megabyte charges with bills ranging any where from a few bucks to those horrib...

Ooh, ah, 3 in Scandinavia does 84mbps HSPA! ! !

I thought HSPA capped out at 42mbps, but appearently not. I wonder what the real world end user speeds are of an HSPA network that can do 84mbps.

I swear we in the U.S. are getting ripped off with these loser speeds. And most of you on Phone Scoop are happy with a measly
800kbps-1.1mbps.

So technically when Verizon launches LTE commercially, which they said will have speeds of 8-12mbps will STILL be slower than 3's HSPA network that is a 3G technology.

To those who question the WiMAX Vs. LTE war. . .

WiMAX is CURRENTLY available in !!145!! countries.

And Release 2 will be capable of 120mbps on the downlink and 60mbps on the uplink, release 2 will be deployed by the end of 2011.

By the end of 2011 ATT will probably be just starting deploying LTE.

Anyway, here's a map of the 145 countries that CURRENTLY have WiMAX worldwide.

ATT stated LTE trials to be next year, with deployment in 2011. . .does anybody actually believe tha

I find this hard to believe, I just don't see any ambition from ATT. And if this does end up being true, probably no more than 50 metro areas will have LTE before the end of 2011.

Tethering Kharma QA1, question

I just attempted to tether the Kharma qa1 for ATT. I d'led Comm. Manager 7.0, then did motorola phone tools using the cd, then d'led the update (which the software said it was up-to-date). No luck either way. Phone was in USB Communication mode, not media Sync or Data Sync.

Specs: Brand new Windows 7 32-bit OS laptop.

Has anyone gotten this phone to tether, ever?

Cost of tethering on Verizon?

Does anybody know what it costs to tether your phone on Verizon?

Do you use up minutes?

Do you use up Mb of data?

Do you use up both?

Is it just a better deal to get a free data card and buy the $60/mo data plan?
