I have been reading in these forums where Sprint is the preferred roaming partner over Verizon.
When did this happen ?
Is this correct, or is it just for the smart phones using EVDO data services ?
Does anyone know who Verizon's preferred roaming partner is ?
How do you tell if you are roaming on Sprint or Verizon ?
...
When I go into the DC area from Charlottesville, VA, it's entirely possible I'm picking up a Sprint or a Verizon tower, depending on which one happens to be closer to where I am. I'm not sure if there IS a way you can tell whom you're picking up. I can tell you that according to a newspaper article that ran in the C-ville daily the other day, when Verizon customers come here, they're on Alltel towers.
Hope that's not too confusing.
...
Alltel and sprint signed a agrenment. They also share EVDO. So if you have alltel or sprint your first choice of roaming is the other. Verizon's prefered roaming varies by location. Sprint also roams data with verizon but only 1rtxx. Not evdo. Verizon would not open their EVDO network up to another carrier becasue they don't have the spectrum to do it.
...
Everything you said in your post was correct except for; “Verizon would not open their EVDO network up to another carrier becasue they don't have the spectrum to do it.” They definitely have the spectrum to deploy DO. They also can share with Sprint if they want to, but they obviously do not with DO.
...
Well it may not be spectrum however there is a reason. They don't allow unlimited data with their customers do you think they are going to allow unlimited data to someone that is roaming on their network?
...
It would be good if they would so they can receive some roaming revenue but obviously, they are not.
...
true. I don't know if it is that well known but even if you don't have a data package with sprint and data roam on alltel you are getting it for free.
...
Yea. I think that is not known in the marketplace. Shh, let us keep it that way. 🤣
...
Let’s hope no one looked at the conversation about that data situation. 😎 🤣
...
yeah you might have people on sprint forcing their phone to roam because they dont' have data! Oh maybe no one will read that 🤣 🤣 🤣
...
True. They would be 🤤 over that idea.

👀 overheard the conversation. 🤣
...
damn try and keep it to yourself 🤣 🤣
...
booooooooooooooooooo.
...
It happened a long time ago. Your phone will look for alltel towers, then sprint towers, then verizon towers. All of which are free roaming. You've probably been using sprint already and haven't noticed....

Does everyone feel when roaming on Sprint that Sprint's network is as good as Verizon's ?
...
The network is OK...their customer service sucks, though.
...
When roaming I do not see a difference. It is on the data services that are very different. (The speed.)
...
Overall, it is pretty much the same. There are some areas where it can be a problem. But Sprint is catching up by implementing those synergy (iden/cdma) sites.....
