Purchase a data plan from Nextel, then sign up at telenav.net. I think it's about $12 a month.
The how is like this:
You can pre-plan your trip by logging into the telenav website and entering street locations. When you turn on your phone and open up the telenav appication, you "refresh" your address list. All the addresses that you entered (up to 10) on the website are now in a menu on your phone. Scroll and select one, hit GO and it starts to work. It GPS verifies where you are now, and begins giving you screen and voice prompts to get to where you want to go. Works just like a GPS system installed in many newer cars. It does work when you are out of coverage, although the automatic re-routing does not. In other words, once you leave Nextel coverage, you have to stay on it's preselrected route, or it won't be able to help you.
I've had it for 4 months or so, and have had zero problems.
