My guess would be that folks who have had Nextel for years probably assume that Sprint's coverage is about the same. Since the average cellphone customer is not a tech junkie, they probably don't know that you can roam in areas where their Nextel phone simply said "no service". that being the case, who wants just a regular phone with little to no rural coverage? The perception is that at&t and Verizon have better coverage.
