PTT question

I'm a smartphone user on Verizon so it's obvious that I like bells and whistles, but I sometimes want a practical phone for just talking on. I sometimes get tired of putting a mini computer to the side of my head for simple phone calls.

Verizon has some neat PTT phones but Nextel has been at this for a long time. I understand the phone quality is pretty good with Nextel phones, but what about PTT? Has anyone used both iDEN PTT and cellular 3G PTT? If so, what is your opinion on which is better? How do they compare, be detailed if you want.

I thought about adding a line to my existing Verizon family plan which would only be about $10/month. But I was just curious about Nextel's PTT service. I know I don't need to have a PTT phone...

The only difference is time. Phones that do PTT of of a 3G network (both Verizon's, and the ones Sprint used to sell) take longer for the PTT to connect, and for your voice to reach the other end.

Nextel's network is designed for PTT, and therefor the service is instantaneous.

Agreed. I don't think it can be stressed enough that Nextel is TRUE digital two-way communication, while the others are mere emulations. iDEN is the absolute best system of this kind in existence. i have used QChat, and even it pales by comparison.
