does anybody anticipate the Iden network will become "swamped" by the influx of Boost customers? is Sprint/Nextel doing anything to "bolster" the network?

it already is. most of the network is seeing major latency issues with sms and some areas even voice is failing hard.

JD Power just ranked Sprint's iDEN and CDMA networks as performing BETTER than AT&T or T-Mobile.

Just thought I'd provide you all with an update. What follows is my email (in black ink) and JD Power's responses (in red ink).

To Whom It May Concern:

As an avid reader of the JD Power & Associates reports (as well as Consumers Reports), I must say that I looked forward to the latest update concer...

yeah right for years you ran around here dismissing JD, now you run around being their biggest cheerleader 🙄 well smart guy hate to break it to but sprint sucks they killed nextel by overloading iden and ran off all the high APRU customers....now they're trying to put the final nail in the coffin by running the rest away....nextel will soon just end up being a bunch of gangster crack heads...try learning before posting your bs.

I'm not "cheerleading" for JD Power. I still place no faith in anything they report, but that doesn't change the fact that many here do. I'm simply letting all who do know the facts. You see, if folks here are going to base their decision making based on these surveys, they need to be made aware that the rankings have significantly changed.

I think it's funny how you try to make two contradictory arguments. On one hand, you say everyone is leaving Sprint, and the other hand, they are overloading their network again.

If any network is being overloaded, it's Verizon's. With 80 million plus subscribers competing daily to use it, it won't be long until they will secure the bottom spot in reliability surveys.

geez do you ever bother to read any wireless news? i think not. anyways noone is contradicting themselves. sprint has lost many millions of customers over many consecutive quarters ( try google and look it up) it was only last quarter that they added 800 thousand boost customer, but still losing over one million high ARPU post paid customers..so yes their boost prepaid did well last quarter..but anybody with a clue understands losing post paid customer is bad. so yes they stand of chance of overloaded the iden network once again..but i suppose you don't know anything about the iden network being overloaded previous. you should really try to do some research if you want to participate on this site.

no it does not. any carrier rather have contracted post paid customers. if you think otherwise then you are just wrong. sprint is doing horribly right now. they have lost billions of dollars and millions of customers..in a last ditch effort they did the 50 dollar boost thing. tmobile now has more gsm customers than sprint has cdma customers. what does that tell you? ever carrier is able to add new subs but sprint is still losing millions of dollars..ppl are paying MORE money and going elsewhere. i know you know that sprint is in bad shape. you are just being retarded and argumentative just for the hell of it. its kool.

If more are leaving than arriving, then they can't be overloading their network with subscribers.

that is what they did previously and sprint reps along with customer are already experiencing it all over again with just the 800k add on. the iden can't handle that capacity.

here in Dallas/Fort worth area at least METRO PCS is big or i could forsee major problems with crowding on Boost iDEN side right now the only issues i have is around 4 pm t0 6 pm i sometimes get the "please hold while the subscriber is located" message and a little worse indoor reception but i understand that is due to the frequency iDEN runs on but at all times PTT is right there 100% of the time

That pre-recorded message has nothing to do with network congestion and never has. It is simply a message the system plays instead of ringing when the other caller is on a PTT or data session. iDEN locates the handset rather than vice-versa.
