Derizon now will charge $35.00 to TRY a phone from their horrible network.

Here ya go! Verizon admits that their service and/or phones are garbage. They are now charging $35.00 to try a phone because they are losing money on returns. Here is the truth!!
If your service was so great you wouldn't be losing money on people trying phones you would win them over after a couple of days trial. Apparently what they do know is marketing, just a bunch of smoke and mirrors on their TV ad's but when push comes to shove they are LOSING money because they have to charge $35.00 to try a phone.
So they must not be the BEST as they claim, if you were the BEST then you wouldn't need the $35.00 trial fee.
Can I get an AMEN!!!

You, sir, are an idiot. VZW is charging the fee to encourage sales reps to get the right phone for the customer the first time and to prevent people who are repeatedly getting a phone and return it. Think about the storm which is getting ready to launch, VZW is already offering the phone at a great price and taking the hit on the cost. What happens if someone decides they don't like it enough to pay fpr the data package? They return it and that brand new phone has to be sent in to be used for parts or certified like new equipment. VZW just lost the data package that was supposed to make up for the cost of the phone and they lost what money they did get on thwe phone. People will always try to work the system, they talk about it on here all t...

So by your own admission two things are happening. Verizon is losing money.
And secondly their sales reps don't know what they are doing because they are giving the customers the wrong phone and or the wrong data package. Thats good to know. I'll stay away. Thanks for the admission of guilt.

1) Every phone company loses money on the initial phone sale with the intent of gaining that money (and a profit) back during the contract. No more contract = no gain back of money lost.

2) Every phone company has idiots who are trying to make the sale on the data package rather than the right phone for the right customer.

I don't have a problem saying that there are areas that VZW needs to work on. While I am not excited about the restocking fee, I understand why the company is charging it. This is going to affect someone who returns the phone the same day because they picked up the wrong one or the person who gets a phone that isn't working. This is going to affect the people who come in and upgrade to a storm and two weeks later re...

Nope not a sprint fan boy, but I sure have raised the ire of you derizon fans. All of you derizon marks must have guilty consciences. You keep coming into the Sprint/NEXTEL forum to see whats going on. Are we just a little bit paranoid that someone might just tell everyone about the LIES, ah, er Marketing that Derizon is doing. Let's see how long we can keep this particular discussion going.

Yes, because keeping tabs on other carriers is such a terrible thing. 🙄

you claim to be a business man.. are you telling me that if there was a forum where your competitors and their customers talked candidly about their service you wouldn't drop in to see what everyone is saying?

Of if someone was trashing your company with incomplete/false information you would say nothing?

Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint are the major carriers this we all agree on. There are pro's and con's with every carrier. Sprint has the least con's. Research is definately a key to learning about how the other carriers work because this gives you an edge on how to tell your customers what you have to offer verses the competetion. Sprint has a better plan cost and competative equipment. Ultimately it is the consumers choice, and if they are smart shoppers in todays economy then Sprint would be the right choice. Boost is the leader in pre paid wireless now with $50 unlimited talk, direct connect, text, and web. Boost is hurting Cricket, and every other pre paid service available. I love it!!!!!!!!!!

Sprint's value only works if they offer service where the customer needs it, and have the customer service to back up their plans when problems arise.

There are much cheaper unlimited plans out there, all from local carriers. But people don't go for them because of coverage and customer service.

Price isn't everything anymore. If sprint works where you need it, then it is a great value. but if sprint doesn't offer coverage where you need it, the money saved is kinda pointless.

What I don't get, is all this argueing about coverage between sprint and verizon. they're both CDMA, along with AT&T even. what does that mean? ROAMING. I live right next to a verizon tower, so I will admit I rely on verizon, but my sprint phone roams on it, so where there's verizon, there's sprint, and vice-versa

Schuylkill County, PA. Great Verizon coverage through most of the area where sprint is spotty at best. Nextel (push to talk) works a little better, but neither one of them has the coverage that Verizon's towers do in the area. And they can't use the 3g at all.

Sprint cannot roam wherever there is Verizon, just like I'm sure there are some places Sprint has coverage that they don't allow Verizon to roam off of.

amen to that moses. i honestly don't believe a giant verizon bashing thread belongs here. i was with verizon for 9 years before jumping ship to sprint... no big complaints about sprint to be honest except for one very big thing. with sprint, i was paying *way* less each month for *way* more services... of course now i manage a sprint indirect dealer so.... hehe.

by the way, we just got our first batch of boost phones, i'm so jacked up it's not funny. we've had so many people come in asking about boost, now we can hook them up. palm pre about to roll out, had an awesome chat with a technician who is field testing the phone and his iPhone friends are jealous... good time to be repping sprint 🙂

Because this is where I want it to be.

Funny almost 2 yrs after I heard from all of you Derizon marks that Sprint would be bankrupt and out of business we are still here. I love messing with all of you Derizon Drones that can't think for yourselves. You have to spout the company drivel, smoke and mirrors, and try to say what that you have a good company. I will still stay away. Derizon spouts nothing but lies and bull. I'll keep my reliable network Sprint.

On top of which, in a couple of the most recent surveys on 3G performance, Verizon is in third place after SPrint & ATT. Yet Verizon still puts on its billboards "The fastest and most reliable 3G network."

I give credit to Verizon for having a good voice network and a winning advertising strategy, but indeed Verizon is a fundamentally dishonest company with below-the-belt tactics simply being part of their corporate DNA.

The more Verizon zombies there are, the less crowded are the airwaves for Sprint & Nextel customers :-) So let them think they have the best network, and just ignore their strutting and their smugness, as long as they stay away from Sprint & Nextel :-)

the only money they would be "losing" is if someone tried a phone for long enough to force the company to qualify it as old.

This restocking fee is to cut down on people playing the system and signing up for a quick phone while they shop around for a better deal on the phone they really want.

On top of that, this fee will not apply if you port your number, or decide not to stick with verizon, but only if you buy one phone then decide you really want another because it ruins the value of the phone in the process.

However, when I want to get my job done with the BIG OIL I use Direct Connect from NEXTEL!!! As far as sales go I have forgotten more about Sales then you will ever learn. Well with your post you have proven you forgot everything you ever knew about sales and retail business. Go back to your big oil job and why complain about something that doesn't affect you? Did you get charged the fee? Does verizon hide the fee when you try a phone? I think not. So what you are saying just like ETF this fee is a trick and the stupid american people that for the most part are illiterate and unable to comprehend what it means(when it comes to just cell phone companies most the time). Tell me please why do people think they deserve everything when it comes to Cell Phones? Do you get a free cordless when you get POTS or VOIP? Do you get free electric or any service for that matter free from the electric company?

Wow such anger! Seems like you just proved my point about Derizon. Your words are that the American People are Stupid and Illiterate. What Derizon Store do you work at so the American Public can know exactly what you think about them. I never said that in the least bit. This is exactly what the Derizon folks teach their sales people, this is how you treat your customers. Wow, I suspected it but never really knew the truth until your post. Thanks for confirming it. Sounds like from your post you might just be a bit paranoid or scared. It's understandable I get it you've been brainwashed into a certain way of thinking. Not the American Public they are just too SMART for that.

You really don't read posts do you?

The fee is only if you get a phone, you like the network, but you want a different phone (and it ISN'T because the phone sucks, but you just want a different model). If a phone is returned and it has over a certain amount of talk time, it CANNOT be sold as new, and must be sold instead as a refurb or a warranty replacement. That is a huge loss the company is taking (much more than $35) for someone who just wants a different phone.

If you hate the service, or if the phone is defective, you don't have to pay this cost.

I love how you blindly assault a company that continues to post billions of dollars in profit every year, millions of net adds every quarter, and industry leading churn year and year out, yet blindly defend a company that is bleeding customers left and right. If Verizon's policies were that bad - people wouldn't continue to use them. How do you feel about your own companies past policy of cancelling customer's that called customer service too much? That was definitely a customer friendly tactic.... 😁

I think Verizon is successful for three reasons:
1) They have the overall best-performing cellular voice network in the US. Not the best data (Sprint) and not the best PTT (Nextel), but overall it is hard to agrue that Verizon doesn't have the best cellular voice network in the US. And after all, cellular voice calls are 90% of why people carry cell-phones.
2) They have pretty decent customer service.
3) They have an excellent marketing group.

T-Mobile has better CS ratings than Verizon, but T-Mobile also has the highest churn. Why? I'm guessing it's because the T-Mo network is the worst in the US, and it takes BOTH good CS and good network to keep customers.

No carrier is perfect, none of them has complete coverage, and none of the...

Very true, Verizon DOES take extreme liberties with their coverage maps. They are the only carrier in the US without a reasonably accurate coverage map. Much cheaper to have the webmaster paint the entire lower 48 states red and leave the rest up to marketing hype.

In my previous post, I should have stated that Verizon's marketing prowess is far better than their operational & CS abilities. And just as "discretion is the better part of valor", so is "marketing is the better part of business success".

Although Verizon definitely uses questionable tactics (as I did state in my previous post), they do have the overall best network in the US. Not perfect, nowhere near as good as they have people believing it is, but overall it is slightly ...

Doormat,

I wouldn't know about my companies policies, since my company has nothing to do with selling cell phones. (I'm not in the business, just a consumer that does not like being lied to, as Derizon does.) I just happen to agree with Cellphonesaretools that Derizon does a great job of Marketing (read Lying) about what they think they can do, but in reality don't, won't or can't do.

the 35$ restocking fee is only on exchanges, not returns. so if the network is terrible and you return the phone and cancel service you dont get the free.

but if the network is good and you just want to try a diff phone you have to pay to make up for the money verizon lost by you turning that first brand new phone into a warranty replacement device.
