Yes, our plans cost "more" than some other companies (such as sprint) but that extra cost is because of the network that supports it. Maybe you have great service where you live, but up here, only ATT and Verizon have reliable coverage, and Verizon is the only 3g network in the area. Supporting all of those extra towers, even if the users in the city NEVER use them, costs money. That extra cost is there so that you will have more coverage in more places.
If I still lived in a city, I would most likely have a Tmobile or Sprint phone (my first phone was Voicestream, which is Tmobile) but when I went to school, only verizon had any service.
To borrow from those (admittedly) annoying commercials, it's the network. If all of them work the same for you, go for price and value. If only one works where you need it, maybe the premium price is worth it.
