The link is to a podcast interview conducted to ask and answer questions about PTT and the future of iDEN. According to Sprint's spokesman in the interview, Sprint has no plans whatsoever to ditch Nextel or the iDEN system.

Thanks jrfdsf. It's good to hear Sprint finally, well maybe, is beginning to understand that they had entirely the wrong attitude towards the Nextel system right from the get-go. I hope it's not too late.

Personanally, I would really prefer if someone could rally an effort to take Nextel back, add to it both NIHD and Telus Mike, combining all three into a standalone, all-Nextel company spanning all of North America & South America. There is plenty of room for growth in Canada & South America, and a return to the original Nextel in the US would no doubt be a strong company and a good cash-cow again.

After a couple of years to get back on their feet, the new "Nextel Americas" could re-launch a high-speed data system like the Flarion syst...

If Nextel were to be sold off, my vote would be for SouthernLinc to purchase it. I don't, however, see this happening at all.

Sprint was misinformed within its own ranks with regard to the iDEN defections. No one ever stopped to consider why Legacy subscribers started leaving in droves. Network problems and the rise of texting were the assumed reasons behind it.

You and I both know the real reason that the Nextel folks left was because of Mother Sprint and her poor marketing decisions. Not to mention the threatened network shutoff nobody wanted, along with Nextel and DC branding that were being deemphasized.
