Qchat vs. iDEN

Which one do you guys prefer and why? I am currently on the Nextel iDEN network, and I do not know whether to get new iDEN phones, or Qchat phones. I read that Sprint is selling the 800MHz spectrum to the gov, so I dont know if Nextel will continue anyway. But still, what are your thoughts? Thank you in advance!

Currently, I would chose the iDEN network due to the Q-Chat glitches. Sprint may sell to local gov. due to interfering with public spectrum. CDMA's spectrum will not, so I feel Sprint will focus more on their CDMA Q-Chat. Too many issues with iDEN, but there's still a lot of glitches with Sprint's Q-Chat PTT.

It really depends on the person’s needs. If they want REV A network which is Sprint’s high-speed data then I would do that, but if they do not want high speed, data then stay with IDEN. I would let all of the markets that Qchat will be in come to play and live before making any decisions. Also wait until there are more devices out there.

Again. Nextel is not getting rid of all of their 800 MHz. They are actually keeping a lot of It. just exchanging some for some to have a contiguous band.

and for those who dont know what they are getting rid of/exchanging here is an "example" of what they are doing.

lets just say sprint has 800-825, the government has 826-850 then sprint has 851-857, sprint is merely exchanging the 800-825 for the 826-850 spectrum so that it has a continous part of the spectrum rather than having it broken up by the governments part. 😁 this might have been explained b4 but i thought i would re-explain it just in case some may have missed it.

*800-825 *826-850 *851-875 (start)
sprint government sprint

*800-825 *826-850 *851-875 (finish)
government sprint sprint

My recommendation would be to maybe consider a Powersource phone for now instead. As these guys have pointed out, QChat is still a new technology, and the bugs are still being worked out, along with coverage issues.

I do think once those issues are resolved that QChat will be a better product. Aside from having more versatility, QChat runs over, in my opinion, a better network w...

a few phones that i have seen with Qchat are really nice but, the coverage is not all that good for the PTT..and i like Direct Talk. just a nice thing to have i hope sprint will put it on there phones. but i would stay on Nextel Iden for as long as they have it witch i hope its a long time. but if they dont keep it i would go to Qchat as long as it is just as fast as Iden.
