Is this true?

Turbomagnani

My friend went into the Nextel/Sprint store to get his phone check out while he waited the sells man told him he gets a back up phone"" that works off his current minutes. Then he is like your next month bill is going cost more but what he said "I take care of it". My friend didn't pay anything for the phone it self. But I told him I never heard of anything like this "back up phone" I think they add another line to his account. Is this true a back up phone? Or did he just get screwed?

When the account is set up as a consumer account, he can add what called an NVP account. An NVP account is an account that is consumer, but getting the employee discount through the business. Some businesses may offer 1st month free, and no act fee. There's even some markets that allow 1st month free, on switcher programs. Even military programs.

dude face it if they gave him a new number. one way or the other he got screwed. some stores do temp phone exchanges but it is just a phone swap. the number and plan don't change just the hardware does, if they gave him a new number, then, well no offense but he got it up the butt till it bled

By the way that sounds, it seems like he added a line to his account, but I am not sure with the answer. Also, not sure what sprint_2007 will say about that though.

he probably got screwed...this is why i say I will never go into a str unless they call ccare from the str, because some of those str reps have no idea what is right and wrong they get so caught up on their goals that they forget to take care of this person who walks in concerned abt what they need to do to get a replacement fon. When they say they will take care of it, that just means they will just forget abt you and run into the back when u come back to get it taken care of and just call ccare who in the end will always take care of the customer. In contrast, to what i just stated some reps in the strs do care they are the ones who never have to call ccare. They know the difference between right and wrong.

Come to Verizon Wireless and you won't run into problems like this! What's that?....oh....it must be the annoying people typing a reply that sounds like ..."thats wrong....i had so many problems..bla..bla..bla. go crawl back into your cave!

Hahahahaha, right. right.

Some store reps are deceitful, just like some call center reps are. I've seen it from both. It's worse when it's a call center rep, though, because the call center rep gets to hide behind relative anonymity whereas the customer can go back and see the rep face to face.

To the OP, your friend got suckered into adding a second line to his account. Tell him to return it unless he wants to pay for it for two years.

Yes it is true at least in a store you can go back and look at that person in the face with a call center you will never speak to that person again. We had a very annoying customer who I beleive was having her esn changed by s CSR. Then she would come back to us the dealer when her phone didn't work.

yeah the rep added a line... how do i know? because there are reps in my area that use that same line.... or even "I'm sorry for the inconvenience... here...take this phone, its free.." or "you qualify for a free phone on your account" even if its not the second line. sorry to say...but its because we make our own paychecks...

Any of my associates ever do this they are gone. That is ridiculous. "We make our own paychecks"? Are you kidding, that does not excuse lying and misleading the customer. No wonder "S" is so low right now ($17.10 last I checked 😢 )!

Its actaully called a dead line. How else do you expect us to hit quota? The #1 Rep in Sprint worked in our district and pretty much invented this as far as I know. 300 acts a month average by himself. He was a %($& who was very shady and did this all the time. I do but I explain the whole process and make sure the customer knows what they are getting into.

And by the way I know reps and former reps for all the big companies, and they ALL do it. So VZW peckerwood guru, it happens to your holy than thou company too.

What's with the VZW peckerwood guru insult?
🙄

I work for Sprint retail, hence why I mostly post in the Sprint and Shop Talk boards, not sure how you read that to think I was a VZW rep...

Where did I say it doesn't happen with all carriers? Nowhere. It's a known thing that most all wireless sales reps fall into. "no, you're not eligible for an upgrade but we can add a line and get you a cheap phone." That's if the rep is at least up front about it. Sometimes the rep will just flat out mislead the customer, which is what my post was about.

usually what they can do is give the customer a temp phone untill they fix the old phone,if its going to take a few days. But they dont get a NEW phone, usually a used phone, and they never get a new number, just activate the temp one to the account untill the old one is fixed.

So mabey..screwed?
