This phone will not roam with other CDMA providers, except a small few areas. And I mean small spots in a few states. Also, you cannot use the IDEN for phone calls, only PTT. If you look at the coverage maps, you'll see that in most if not all cases, Nextel has the larger foot print. Stay away from this phone, unless you will never leave the city.

Junk maybe too harsh, but definitely a disappointment. Why would any Nextel subscriber want to get this phone and have LESS voice coverage? Makes absolutely no sense.

Most people that I know who buy Nextel phones don't get them to text message, they buy them for the PTT. Who cares if CDMA data transfer is faster when text messaging in general is SLOWER. Even a great typist using a computer keyboard would not be able to send a message via CDMA data faster than someone talking on a PTT call. Even a standard telephone conversation is quicker than texting someone. To me, texting is only valuable in situations where you can't talk, but certainly not in situations where you can. As for speed in texting, Nextel has push-to-e-mail. Wanna guess how fast that is? Less than one second.
