nextel and sprint joining ptt
nextech317 said:Well, seeing as how Rich just explained Moto is working on CDMA Qchat and iDEN PTT interoperability...why is it so infeasible?
I don't see that happening...especially the way nextel is so independant and the leader in PTT.

Guys, to put it simple...I don't see nextel joining or merging with any other carrier with the PTT. As you may know alltel, verizon , sprint and other carriers are currently using this feature and it isn't going to be what it is with nextel. Nextel will always be the leader in this field.
southwestcomm said:True. And you data/corporate guys are all very discerning users. But the rest of the pukes all yell one think when you say "Nextel" to them...PTT!
As a data guy I have to disagree. No other carrier offers the GPS, J2ME, bar code scanning, mobile credit card swiping and the best Blackberry solutions that Nextel does.
😢
Every other cell phone on the market with a color screen seems to be able to accomplish this.
Yes, the reason I bought a Nextel was for PTT, but I didn't expect them to be so behind the times with everything else. It's my fault for not researching it enough, I know, but come on... text only browsing is for old Nokias 😛

don't see it happening. What would be the advantage for Nextel? They won't do it unless there's a compelling WIIFM. Not saying the technology couldn't do it. Throw money at a technology issue, and you can make it work.
well i think the purpose of making the iden/cdma ptt is not for domestic use meaning in the united states i think it just has to do with internationally like global direct connect. i could be wrong but that is my sense out of what nextel did with qchat and qualcomm and i think another thing is to stop other united states carriers from gettin the qchat, which i heard is quite similiar to nextel's direct connect. mac whats your take?
mac if you were nextel what would be your stradegy in doing the qchat and doing a corss platform of cdma/iden push to talk?
macman said:Those are actually some great points you make. But do you se...
Nope. If, and when, Nextel goes CDMA for their voice it would make sense to play nice with PTT competitors. In the world of the present, which is where this thread started, it makes no sense for Nextel to give Sprint the HUGE advantage that Sprints PTT product would gain from being able to PTT with the 13 million + Nextel customers. So the idea that Nextel and Sprint are days or even months away from allowing cross platform (iDEN/CDMA) PTT is what I'm saying makes no sense. Nextel would rather see Sprint's PTT product continue to wither on the vine that give it any support by cooperating with Sprint. Same goes for VZW's PTT product.
