n00b questions
Hi all. I'm a former Sprint customer, and am thinking of switching back from Alltel. My question is, how has the Nextel-Sprint merger affected plans & roaming coverage, if at all? Looking at their respective websites, Nextel appears to have better prices for the plans that woud suit me, but Sprint has better (much better!) coverage according to their map. If I sign up with Nextel, will I have service in Sprint's coverage area?

The Nextel & Sprint systems are still seperate and do not roam from one to the other. Sprint CDMA phones can roam to other carriers, like they always have. Nextel branded iDEN phones can only utilize the NEXTEL iDEN network and will not work on any other "cellular or PCS" carriers.
As to plans and prices, what ever suits you is the right way to go. 😉

As markF has stated the 2 networks are seperate and they will not be able to roam off each other until dual mode phones are made and chipsets are made by motorola and qualcomm to do a iden/cdma phone or device. if you sign up with nextel you wont get any of the benefits with sprint's coverage becuase they are 2 seperate networks operating on differnt technologies and freqs. if you sign up to nextel or sprint you have to look at their respective plans and coverage maps in your area. they will not cross over or support each other until as mentioned above dual mode phones are released.
hope that helps..
