i730 shortcomings
Got off the phone with Nextel tech support yammering about problems with their network in my traveling area. On top of network tickets, they want me to get a "grounding clip" installed. Does anybody know if this will actually help or is it a temp fix for a larger problem? Also, how long does it take to just add this clip? I don't want to go down to a local store and them tell me it needs to be sent off so the clip dealie can be fused to the antennae...

The grounding clip needs to be installed by a NEXTEL service center. A NEXTEL retail sales store (without service capabilities) will not do it for you as it requires complete disassembly of the phone.

Results have been mixed on HoFo. If they will do it for free, which they should, it would be a reasonable gamble.

Well I don't own one, but I am an electrical engineer and from what I saw of the Motorola release to the service shops it incresses the counterpoise (ground) of the RF section especially around the RF Amplifier.

Update: I guess now according to Nextel if there is not a bulletin on your phone you don't need it installed (meaning it was installed during manfufacturing). I guess the bulletin was written in June 2004, my i730 (called Tech to verify manf date by giving them EMEI and S/N) was made in Dec 2004. Anybody that has one built prior had their account flagged with that bulletin so if they called to complain that their phone didn't work for s*** the tech would explain about the clip....
