Does anybody know when NFC technology will come to an iden phone. The i886 is a great field phone, it would be perfect if it had NFC technology. The only info I was able to find was from a company named iwow that has an iden phone with NFC

I'd be really surprised if they put NFC (near-field communications) into any iDEN phones, given that they will begin shutting down iDEN in 2013.

I'm just guessing, but if you see any Sprint-Nextel phones with NFC, they will likely be on the CDMA side, not the iDEN side.

Still, Sprint is full of surprises, so I guess it could happen.

You might try posting your question to community.sprint.com website, under a likely forum. Sometimes the Sprint employee admins who monitor that website will look into those types of questions and try to find an answer if they can.

Here is announcement of the newest upcoming iDEN phone (Motorola "Titanium"), no mention of NFC:

Built military-grade tough, Motorola Titanium is certified to Military Specification 810G for dust, shock, vibration, low pressure, solar radiation, high temperature and low temperature.

Thanks for the info. Maybe when they get an iden phone with android 2.3 they will add NFC. I am wondering what will happen with all the boost mobile users that use iden phones. We have about 10 i355 with boost since they are only used occasionally. The Motorola Titanium does not mention direct talk, but I'm sure it must be part of the phone.

I like how they reference all the google apps without taking into account that Nextel's data network does not have the speed or bandwidth to support it.

The i1 can, where there is WiFi. Not a good solution, but better than nothing.

Sprint screwed up when they failed to make the i1 an iDEN+WiMax phone.

I'm guessing the new nextel smartphone will be able to do the same ish, but still, I think it's funny.
