Hey everyone I have a sort of a weird question here it goes. I currently use both services here in chicago area, Nextel at work and the family has Verizon, soon though I have to choose one or the other, I currently have an i860 with Nextel and a v710 with Verizon. What do you guys think would be the better to go with if you had to choose between the 2? Kind of hard choice as I do love the direct connect from Nextel but definitly like the service reliability of Verizon!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Choose the carrier that you know to be the most reliable where you work and live. If you travel, both Nextel and Verizon should provide you with ample coverage. And if you love your Direct Connect, well, there's...

I say stick with nextel. Once nextel and spring successfully merge their 2 technologies, I really think that it is going to be a great company, both voice and data wise.

VoIP, isnt that Voice Over Internet Provider? K... between the 2....id go Cingular. 😛

Honestly....verizon though does have the Push To Talk also, and in my opnion, has alot broader coverage than Nextel.

Brilliantly argued. The question was about a choice between Verizon and Nextel. We're not worried about Cingular.

Thank you all for the insight, muchdrama I think I will take your advice the direct connect is awesome and coverage is comparable to verizon here in chicago, I will stick with Nextel. Nothing against Cingular but when I tried them they just could not compare as far as call quality and rf here in chicago, they do have awesome phones though maybe once all there merger stuff is done they might turn out to be the best who knows!!!

Thank you all

P.S. does anyone know if Nextel is putting more towers up here in Chicago this year? or is there focus elsewhere?

they always add towers nationwide. it just depends where they need to put towers in more "important" areas. maybe where capacity and coverage isnt so great as some other areas are. but what i can tell you is that nextel is building 3k towers nationwide and you can bet that chicago is slated to have more towers being built. they focus where there are a lot of people and chicago it is a pretty good market so they should/will be building more towers there to expand coverage and capacity. towers takes a long time to be built and on the network so just hold on and be patient.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

That is the funniest thing that I have ever heard.

Cingular better than Nextel...I'll agree.
Cingular better than Verizon...I don't think so.

Honestly go with Sprint. But if you must choose between the two...definately Verizon.

IF Verizon works better where he lives and works (which it doesn't...Nextel works just as well). IF Verizon offers better PTT, which he needs (and we both know how that works out).

I had Sprint, horrible service. Now between my husband and I, we have Verizon, Cingular and Nextel. Nextel is the best in my area of Southwest Florida. When AT&T merged to Cingular my service degraded signifigantly

it's Nextel or bust.

why?

nextel is a little different than your traditional wireless companies...

yes, they may not have the most coverage nationwide, but they are growing and by the way in the process of merging w/Sprint.

yes, they my not have the most superior quality
of signal (Cingular & T-Mobile, who use GSM and in the future UTMS/W-CDMA presently have the most), but have a excellent, time tested, and dependable (Nextel's iden) system.

and,

yes, they may not have the smallest handsets available, but the trade off in size might be worth it for you.

Nextel has has the industries lowest customer "churn' and the highest customer loyalty. When you become a customer, you will see why...

what does it for me, someone w...

That Nextel has decided to abandon (although, not entirely...look for iDen to stay in operation for at least another 5 years or so) in favor of Sprint's superior CDMA network.

Abandon, in the future perhaps, i mean come on, what do expect iDEN was a great, unique invention that definitely has it's trade secrets, but it is dated. CDMA is superior, but once Nextel's trade secrets are incorporated into Sprint's (Ready Link), it will be interesting to see who will dominate the market, especially with the technology available to all carriers, such as the Kodiak PTT system. www.kodiaknetworks.com

of course cdma is superior, but not when it comes to push to talk. iden will lead in that marketplace for a long time to come. kodiak wont be a big competitor especially since there is a 2-3 seconds latency for the intial call. qchat (which i love) will be a very nice product that will probably dominate the push to talk solutions on the cdma network.

Since when are you in a position to "love" Qchat? And you might want to let Kodiak get up and running on a North American network before you decide to bash the technology. Same old, same old...you would think you had time to meditate upon your approach to this website.

Actually it means I came back within the last four days, Einstein. Good detective work. Maybe you'll amount to something more than a kiosk monkey after all.

Yeah, as an Ops Manager. No need to feel bad for me. 10 years with the company, one step away from my own store. Four days means four days. Get the earwax out.

i am obviously late, becuase i was on vacation, but i think if you want direct connect you should stick with nextel, and if you want (need) other services that verizon offers go with verizon. if you 100 percent need direct connect get nextel, but if you dont obviously get verizon.
