Sprint & Verizon Roam on Eachothers Networks?

I have a friend that I've been traveling with a lot lately that has Sprint and I have Verizon. I've been thinking of switching to Sprint hence why I'm asking this question. When ever we were in areas of spotty coverage it seemed when my phone showed "extended network" his Sprint phone showed he was on the Sprint network and when ever my phone showed it was using the Verizon network his phone showed he was roaming.

So, do Sprint and Verizon roam on eachothers networks? If so, wouldn't that mean the coverage is the same on either provider?

WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!!!!! I think somone told you this in all of the other forums too. Just because its CDMA doesnt mean that they will automaticly roam off one another. If there is no agreement between the company then they wont "see" the tower. It all depends on where you are and who is in the area.

Specifically, what will happen is if you put a Sprint phone into forced roaming in an area where no agreement exists: the phone will pick up a signal, but if you try to make a call, you get a recorded message saying that you are not authorized to use carrier "X" system.

one other thing. ALl you have to do is open the PRL and you will see all the carriers sprint roams with. To do this you have to go to PRL interpretations and see. verizon is number 2 in allot of locations with sprint were alltel is not at. But could be second to metroPCS or others.

yes they do. However Verizon is 3rd on their list after alltel right now. And verizon with data only lets them roma with 1xrtt. Alltel lets them roam off their EVDO data network. Towers have nothing to do with roaming.
