Right now, I am thinking of switching to another provider, I currently have cingular and i am considering nextel as my next carrier. Anyone who lives in the fort Lauderdale area can tell me how good is the signal. Also, I currently work for the Public School system, does this entitle me to government discounts.

I can not comment on the coverage - not living in Florida - but you will qualify for a government discount. All you need to do is bring in any form of ID to a Nextel store and you will receive one. Where I am the government discoun is 10% off rates plans and discounted equipment.

check out the coverage map on nextel.com under the slot coverage. you can see that basically its all covered. check your peers to see if they have nextel, also check your school system becuase they might be equiped with nextel as well. customer care and tech support will tell you if there is or not, and i also think tele sales could as well, but customer care and tech would know better.

good luck newbie and come to nextel!!!

Coverage is great in South Florida. I live in Boca, work in West Palm Beach, and play in Lauderdale. You need not worry about coverage down here. 😎

As far as the discount, typically its 10% off your bill and I think it's 28% off of accessories. All you need is a paystub or gov't ID to enroll. Jodie at Cell-Tec Communications in Ft. Lauderdale can hook you right up with the gov't discount. Their # is 954-485-4400.

Enjoy....
