NYC reception

I see the question was posted by someone else a few weeks ago but only one reply was posted. I'm looking for more detail if at all possible. THANKS!

Guys and Gals, I need some help here, I'm a current Nextel user ☚ī¸ and I hate the service. I'm trying to find who - T-Mobile or (Dare I say it here) Verizon - has the better service.

What is your experience with the service of T-Mobile? how is it in the tunnels of NYC - Midtown, LIRR, etc. How is it in the malls and office buildings of Long island, Queens, Manhattan, etc.

What phones of T-Mobile get the best reception?

TIA, for your input!

I use and work for VZW. I would say we have the best coverage for a number of reasons. One we now provide complete coverage in all tunnels, two we just added 12 new cell sites to manhattan. I have personally used my phone in NY on numerous occassions and have had no trouble. Also durning the 9/11 terror attacks we provided all the cell phones to emergency personel. Why do you think they asked us to provide the phones?

Actually, Nextel also has pretty good coverage in NYC. Recently JD powers conducted a survey that rated VZW and NEXTEL virtully ties in Network performance. ALso, Nextel's PTT capability was the only method of communication that was working at Ground Zero, not like was previously stated. I would venture to say it is one of the primary reasons that the State of New York just signed a deal with Nextel so that all of it's employees use Nextel phones. That includes ALL Emergency Services Personnel.

Well being that I was there I think I would know. As well as providing phones to Emergency Personal we also were providing cell phones to residents that were without home phone service. We also deployed portable cells to provide even better coverage.

To all the potential T-Mobile customers, don't listen to "Skins56." He / She is the most biased person on these boards, just go read the Verizon boards and you'll see. As someone who works and lives in tall buildings I can say without a doubt that the T-Mobile service in NYC is far superiour to Verizon. I spoke to an engineer that stated that CDMA technology (Verizon) was never designed to be in tall buildings. I use my t-mobile phone with any problems anywhere in NYC. I have the V300 which is probably one of the best phones available in the united states with over 6 hours of talk time and 5 MB of memory, 1000 phone entries, two way speaker phone, shart picture phone, and interactive web services and email.

I paid Verizon $100- for 1...

I hear ya Astravitz, for I too want to someday go to T-Mobile, Cingular or AT&T GSM so the phone will work in most places I would travel to in Europe, as well as here in the United states. I also agree on the excellent sound and voice quality...for I talk to a friend in Long Beach, CA (near L.A.), and he sound's better on his T-Mobile cell (has a Samsung R225, I think?) than his landline! Also I get great voice quality here with my Verizon cell. I will have to try both Verizon and T-Mobile side by side as you suggest to see which is better. But all is not true as far as building reception. I believe a lot can be due to location. Now since I've never been to New York, I can't say how my Verizon phone would work inside buildings, but here ...
