Hi guys I got the link to this article from some guy here at phonescoop.com I thought I'd share it with you, I know it's long, I was written by one of the guys who helped invent CDMA, very interesting Enjoy!

Anxio!

P.S. I think it's funny when they talk about Europe going to CDMA after all, because this is the only thechnology that supports our needs...

Why would Europe switch to CDMA or any other technology? Go to GSMworld.com and it will show you the footprint that each carrier has in each country. Imagine starting from scratch on a scale that large. Especially considering European carriers are already investing in true 3G technology on the GSM side of it (i.e. voice over ip) there's really no reason to change. The infrastructure is already in place. They don't have the kind of money required to rebuild a network that large. Not to mention consumers over there wouldn't have it. People like the ease of sim swaps to change phones as well as the security it offers. Also consider what you've seen in the Americas, CDMA/TDMA carriers are converting to GSM, not the other way around. Not that lar...

Cingular/ATT both have dual mode networks and are starting to favor GSM. Not that the rest of the infrastructure is going away, it'll stay for a good amount of time, but they won't be upgrading it, just leaving what's there in place to serve those customers that have yet to upgrade to GSM handsets.

Yes, GSM is the future. And US has the worst coverage than all the other countries. I mean, pretty much every other country has pretty much all of their map covered. I heard that in Japan, coverage is everywhere... they can even talk in the subways. Now I wonder when we'll get that far.

Japan also has a land area approximately the size of California, and population is consolidated into just a few mega-urban centers. It's easy to cover something that size where everybody lives close to each other, especially with train rights of way all over the place to situate towers, not to mention that the non-urban population live in small villages strung together by train lines--very easy country to blanket with signal. Anyone who's ever been in the Western half of the US knows how silly it is for people to demand complete coverage out here--there's nothing and nobody around for huge stretches of land, and therefore no reason to put up towers, on account of cows don't use cell phones... 😁

Cows have emergencies too 😉

People don't usually think about that when they look at a coverage map.
